Value of late 60s/early 70's Celestion Greenback?

I just bought an amp that came with 16 ohm Celestion G12M, 25W, 75HZ bass response speaker that was made some time between 1967 and 1974. The code on the frame says ME21V-T1221. I want to sell the speaker but have no idea of its value, if any in particular. It's well used but in good condition. Any info about this speaker would help.

What is the cone code?

Looks like December 21, 1972 was the manufacture date. The cone code will determine it's value though.

The cone code is 02/03. There's a mark in front of the 02 but I can't tell what it is. It looks like half of a 1?

That is a Pulsonic cone which makes that speaker very desirable. These speakers are referred to as "Pre Rola", though that can be a misnomer. I've seen them go for as little as $175 and as much as $350 on eBay depending on condition, current markets, how many interested parties bid, etc.

If I were you I would keep it. They have the sweetest breakup of any speaker.

Thanks for the info,TW. This speaker says "ROLA Celestion" on it...does that still qualify as pre-ROLA?

Yes, that's what I meant about the misnomer. It's a bit complicated but Pre Rola has come to mean the earlier Pulsonic coned speakers. Sometime shortly after your speaker was made they changed to Mueller (sp?) cones and they don't have the same sound. You have a "holy grail' speaker there!

Good to know...do you think this speaker would sound good in a late 60's deluxe reverb, despite the 16 ohm rating? I'll give it a go in the next few days.

They sound good in anything to me. If you are looking for a loud, hard, clean speaker this ain't it, but for creamy breakup, sweet top end, and vocal midrange it doesn't get any better.
