I just started using one. The signal is better than my cellphone. It's not as portable....

I just use it to cut down on my cell minutes. It's like haveing a landline except it's cheaper.

I use Vonage which works ok and you don't need to have a computer turned on. With the MJ, you need to have a computer turned on for its USB port to function.

I have one

My iPhone gets crap reception near my house, and i didn't have an unlimited plan before, so I have it as a "landline" backup/unlimited use kinda things.

The main sell is ITS SOOOOO CHEAP! When I bought it, the salesman said, "You're into music. Why not make it your alternate number for your business? Or if you have relatives abroad, you can mail it to them and they can call you as a "local" call anytime."

Those ideas stuck in my head, so I keep it around just for that. Whenever someone asks for my number and I don't really wanna give it out, boom - Magic Jack. I don't lie, its my number, but its not my cel.

Voicemails are packed into nice emails and sent to my iPhone where I can hear them almost seconds after they are recorded.

Call quality is pretty decent, and subject to the whims of my WiFi. Its good, it works, and its a phone like any other, but dirt cheap. Ahhhh, if only you didn't need to plug a traditional phone into it.

Do you need any special dialing sequences with Ooma? I've been considering switching...but I think its only a matter of time before they start a monthly service charge. I think their hardware is $250, so it would take me about 10 Vonage months to pay for it .

Ive had good luck with it. It is a little finicky, but compared to what I was paying to Verizon it is well worth it. I have some issues with the software, but the phone works fine and sounds fine too. I like the voicemails to the email thing too, sure others have something similar though.
