Arrow First Youtube video: AxeFx high gain and clean

I've really enjoyed some of the great YouTube videos folks have posted of their AxeFx - they were what helped me make the decision to purchase one. I am in love with my Ultra and wanted to see if I could contribute as well.

This is my first attempt at recording audio and video - I picked up a Kodak Zi8 and am running an SM58 that I have into the mic input. Nothing fancy, no external processing. The description posted should give you all the rig details.

A lot of the massive low end chunk that the EV's produce doesn't really come through, but hopefully it can give folks an idea of the versatility of the speakers when it comes to producing high gain as well as clean sounds. That was my hope anyway. Just some random noodling on the video.

Check it out. In the meantime, I'll keep working on my recording technique. Any hints/tips for dealing with YouTube would be much appreciated!

JR

I just updated the link - put a better HD video up.

The dirty amp is the Fryette "more" model. I never liked this model, but at some point I went in and heavily modified the advanced parameters and now it's one of my favorites. The clean is based on a BFDR I believe.

I don't use Axe Edit but shoot me an email and I can try and scribble down the settings if you want them.

I've also got a great dirty patch based on a JCM 900 which was never a great amp IMO, but it sounds pretty sweet on the Axe.

Thanks for the support - I'll try and post more soon. I just ordered an SM57 which should work better than the 58 used in this recording.

The EVM Black Labels are great speakers - I had them cranked pretty loud in this recording. No fizz, lots of chunk, and nice clear cleans.

The EMG 81/85X are great PU's BTW.

It's an SWR Power 750 - meant for bass guitar. Right now it is putting 450 watts into the 2x12 (it will handle 600 with the EVM Black Labels). I have a second cab on the way so soon I will be pushing 750 into the pair. I have a third set of the EV's that just arrived - the ultimate plan is to have a 6x12 - the SWR will push 850 watts into the 2.7 ohm load. Should make the pants flap, and work well for my home practice rig.

yeah, you may need to tone it down depending on the speakers (EV's take it well) and your pickups - EMG's of course stay tight, and the stock pickups in the SC 250's also work well, though they take a little more care to keep things tight.

In this clip, there is a bit of delay and pitch detune mixed in as well, though it is very subtle. After the EQ, I like to run the effects in parallel with one dry feed like this:

/ dry \
- pitch -
\ delay/

set each effects mix to 100% and adjust effect levels to get the desired blend.
