I'm with you on this completely.

And listen. I'm sure Wolfgang in fantastic on bass. I'll bet he's different as a player than Michael Anthony as well. That's why I'd rather have Michael Anthony for VH, because Van Halen is Alex, Eddie, Dave, and Mike.

Is that to say I'm not absolutely gonna check out the new stuff when/if it comes available? I will have it the day it's out period. I'd still rather have Michael Anthony.

If the Beatles would have gotten back together back then without Ringo, would it have really been the same? You know you'd want to see the original line-up now wouldn't you?

I know in general most people have no interest in hearing new material from the bands of yesteryear but being Van Halen as they were remembered with DLR could be the exception to the rule. It's a shame they are no longer working with Mike but I still think they can make a good record without him. Will they go back to their roots? We can only speculate. I think it would be kind of cheesy of them to tour with no new material but if thats what they decide to do I am sure they will have success. Ed was always about new music and I gotta believe they will release a new record before another tour. If not then they probably won't ever make another record. As far as MA vs Wolfie I think Wolfie can hold his own but its hard to look at them visually as a band when one member is just out of high school and the rest in their 50's.

He may not be an asshole, so I'll re-phrase..... the way Mike was dismissed was asshole-ish.....no class. I don't know what precipitated it or caused Ed to treat an old friend that way......I'll concede that Ed "may not have been himself" at the time, but that doesn't excuse him from treating a founding member of the band so shabbily. I say this as a huge fan and admirer of Ed, his talent and his music. Oh, BTW.....I have met Ed, twice. Chatted him up pretty good on one of those occasions.

My inside sources tell me the announcement will be at Mike Modano's presser.

Wish MA was going to be a part of it, but if you gave me or most anyone the option of VH reuniting but we had to pick 1 of them not in it, alomost 100% of the time the pick would be MA.

This thread is freaking hilarious! The band is named Van Halen, not Sobolewski. It's named Van Halen because Eddie was the meal ticket. He's the franchise. Michael Anthony? Whatever.

I'm waiting to hear what Eddie comes up with next, and if it will measure up in quality to his old, glory days.

Wow, couldn't disagree more, but Anthony does seem to fit the band best as far as stage show and image.

I can't wait to here the new VH album with Wolfie on bass. I saw the last tour 3 times, including the rehearsal show(Pete T., I was standing right next to you.) which was the best I have ever seen the band as a whole. Eddie was so happy to have Wolfie by his side, that it made the show. I am hoping this album is amazing because Wolfie is involved, which will take Eddie to a whole level we haven't seen yet.

They reported on the radio today there is no new Van Halen record nor are there any plans for one.

Actually Dave suggested "van halen" as a band name when they were starting out because it sounded cool. As I recall, he sort of regretted it later

I dont know why everybody is complaining. We not only get the original VH with an exciting young new member Wolfie but we also get a second sort of VH with Chickenfoot including MA and Satriani. The glass is full not half empty. Happy days.

If this be true then my thoughts are they must be having trouble making some good new music. No other reason that I can see to not record a new record. For all we know what you heard could be a rumor as well.
