I'm a big fan of Yamaha's SL series. Les Paul copies, really well done, maybe a smidge cheaper than a typical Greco or Burny. I had a Burny that was very good too, but weighty.

I have a great mid-'70s Aria Pro II LP copy ("Leopard") that lots of people who play it just love. I won't wade into hot-button superlatives, but if it's typical of what they were building at the time, you can get a hell of a guitar for around $500.

Howdy,

My first guitar was a Kent Les Paul Custom copy, MIJ. I've no idea wether those were considered any good or not.

I have a 79 Tokai Les Paul Reborn. It's the only "les paul" i've ever touched, heard or played. so i can't really compare it to anything.... however I like it a lot. It's a great guitar, even if it turns out to be a not so great "gibson les paul".
