Epiphone Wildkat questions
Really thinking about looking into one of these guys, but wanted to get your guys' thoughts on 'em.
Looking for something with some airy, single coil sound. This would cover that ground well, but is it too small a body for that airiness, or does it have it's own uniqueness about it that isn't really comparable to anything else? Also, can I get high gain out of this? How's the quality? I've got a Les Paul, but at times it's not quite, chimey enough for me. Hoping that something like this will fix it? Also, do these guitars use solid wood? I can't find it anywhere. Any input would be great! I'm in no rush, but have the cash ready Sorry for all the questions! But thank you!

The Wildkats are pretty nice. They are solid wood. The back and sides are made from three joined pieces of mahogany. The internal sound chamber is then routed from this body. I thought the top was a solid maple, but I am not sure.
The Alnico V P-90s can be a little microphonic. I think they sound great clean and overdriven, but high gain is going to be tricky. The pickups are suspended from the top into an empty space in the sound chamber, that fact combined with their basic character are going to make them susceptible to feeding back. |

Based on your criteria of airiness, chiminess, and the ability to handle some gain, I'd choose a Casino over a Wildkat. Feedback will be an issue, but if you learn to play with it, it can be like having an eBow in your fingers.
FWIW, it's hard to find a solid wood archtop, and their laminate construction shouldn't be viewed as a shortcoming. |

Great stuff to hear guys! There is actually a Wildkat used here locally that I am trying to contact the guy about. The color I want and everything, but anywho, your feedback really helps.
I do have my Les Paul, so I will be doing some switching for high gain it looks like, but that's okay! I will also look into a Casino. Those are great guitars!

WildKat is a cool guitar. It's a "semi hollow" but the solid block is in the bottom half of the guitar (bridge to the butt) and its hollow underneath the pickups and the sides. Weird but kinda cool. Cleans up pretty well with the volume knocked back and rocks when turned up like any P90s. I suggest upgrading the pickups. They sound a bit muddy to me compared to Gibson P90s.
Great guitar for the price though. Bound neck and body. Bigsby and everything. Cool guitar!
