Hello all,
I was just curious about the demographics, music experiences, of fellow Gear Pagers... So, here goes... How old are you? What kind of music do you play? Do you play original music? Do you play live? Tour? What's your general stage setup like? What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? Thanks! |

Americana As much as I'm able to write. Yes. No. Stage right to left: Guitar, Drums Bass Keys with the singer in the middle. Varies, but generally not youthful. Average age probably 45 Again, varies all over the map. People for whom music, especially live music, will support it. People for whom music is not important (and I include anyone who says "music should be free" in this category) will let it die. |

Type of music- Worship originals-notyet but working on it. live- yes/ tour- not yet Set up-Drums have their own room, Piano/organ/keys, bass, acoustic stage right, vocals center stage and me on electric lead stage left all by myself. Age of audience-all ages anywhere from 300 -600 three times a week. Younger people love it and the older think we are a little too edgy. Mostly everyone loves it.

How old are you?
28 What kind of music do you play? Indie/Art-rock (god that sounds terribly pretentious ) Do you play original music? Exclusively Do you play live? Tour? Yes, no What's your general stage setup like? 2 Guitars, Bass, Drums. I need to be as close to the drums as possible, but other than that, I don't really care. I've always played with drummers who prefer really small kits and tend to play more on the toms & bass than snare & hi-hat. I refuse to play in a band with a singer who doesn't also play an instrument. What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? Young pretentious hipsters. Double digit audiences are considered miracles. ![]() Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? Very. The one benefit of playing music with little (read: no) money-making potential is that you get audiences (IME) who don't treat you like background music.

How old are you?
46 What kind of music do you play? Worship Rock Do you play original music? Some Do you play live? Tour? Every weekend, but I do not tour. I play 1, 2, or 3 weekends, but oversee all the music and arts at my church. I work there full-time. What's your general stage setup like? Drums, 1 or 2 guitars, bass, sometimes keys, occasionally reeds or fiddle, 2 - 5 vocals What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? VERY wide. teens - 70s/80s and such Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? They like what they can remember easily and sing easily. They dislike what they can't. Many of my congregants (I'm in a pretty rural area) get out to any live music they can.

How old are you? - 60
What kind of music do you play? - My own noodlings. Do you play original music? - Yep. I doubt if I know how to play 10 other people's songs properly after almost 50 years of noodling. Do you play live? Tour? - Live - occasionally. Tour - maybe at gunpoint. What's your general stage setup like? - AxeFX Ultra in a small rack w/power conditioner, audio/MIDI interface and a few semi-homemade guitars What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? - People go to shows still? Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? - Depends. It helps to have the right audience. |

How old are you?
26 What kind of music do you play? Original hard rock primarily. Sub work for just about anything, occaisional praise band bassist. Do you play original music? Yes Do you play live? Tour? I do play live, not on a regular basis at the moment, but new band is booking now. What's your general stage setup like? Bass stage left, guitar stage right, drums in middle, singer dead front. Although, in this band the bass and guitar has switched in rehearsal, so it may change. What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? Typically 20-late thirties, but there are always some older listeners wherever I've played. My last band usually drew 30-90 peopel regularly, my last sub show was a festival of about 1000. Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? The more entertaining you are, through the music, or the visual perspective, the more people tend to put themselves into the "experience" of a live show. The venues also make a difference, a bar crowd may not be as interested in the music, where a live music based club usually has dedicated patrons that support a local scene.

Per your request...
How old are you? Still in my 20s... What kind of music do you play? Most people put me in the "Americana" genre but I also love jazz... Do you play original music? Almost exclusively... Do you play live? Tour? Yes, and yes... What's your general stage setup like? Mic, guitar, and me...(although I have performed with many bands and always encourage other musicians to join me) What are the audience demographics at your shows, and how many people come to your shows? As young as my 3 yr old nephew and on up to my grandma (benefit of performing in listening rooms, coffee shops, etc!) However many can fit into the venue? ![]() Through your own experiences, how do you feel about how receptive audiences are to music, and how they support music? I think this heavily depends on the music itself. If it talks to them, they'll respond.
