Don Felder "An Evening At The Hotel California"

Just returned home from Don's performance. He and his band put on a great show. Had an opportunity to meet Don after the show. He could not have been more gracious. What a class act!

That's a great book. I have officially "boycotted" the Eagles since Felder's dismissal. Shame, too, because they were one of my favorite bands in my college days.

I could be wrong, but I believe Bernie Leadon also taught Petty some tricks.. his brother was in Mudcrutch, and I think i remember reading that Bernie sat along for a jam or two in the early days..

+1.

Can't stand the sound of Henley's or Frey's voice. D-bags!!!!

On a Henley note, I'm convinced DH let Peter Stroud go after a Stroud slip up on Saturday Night Live, years ago.

I have nothing to substantiate this, it is pure speculation. But Sheryl Crow's gain.

Don Felder is a musical Genius, this is one of my all-time favorites.

I read Felders book as well, and remember thinking at the time that, where he wrote it, it obviously may be slanted a little to his side.

You'll never know of course, but I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt as all counts seem to portray him as a complete class act, while Don Henley, and Glenn Frey are consistantly depicted as total a$$holes.

It's a great read though.

On a side note he is a fantastic guitarist. Very tasteful.

I always loved Hotel California and had played it completely wrong for years until I watched him on Youtube one night.
Oh.... so that's how you do it...

Lots of amazing solos out there, but the HC solo has to be one of the greatest in rock history.

It has it all.

Don Felder did tutor ... "little tommy petty". In the words of TP, "Don was
always the best guitar player going around".

As much as I like Joe, Felder was better in the Eagles. Without him they are now just an endlessly touring Tribute Band to themselves. Dealing with
Henley & Frey would be like dealing with Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley.
Eagles Inc.

Love Felder and don't care for the Eagles anymore. Just like someone said earlier they are just Kiss II.

I loved the Don Felder book up until the end, the way he talks about his wife, her company and their ultimate divorce. She spent years at home raising the kids while he was recording and touring, doing drugs and sleeping with groupies, then he retires and finds out the family has a life without him. His wife started a successful business and was around now that he was ready to settle down. He talks about her business and something to the effect of him investing or supporting it, the way he words it comes off as very male chauvinistic. That's her money too brother, you didn't invest in the business. Anyway, as much as I loved the book and have a bad taste in my mouth for Henley and Frey, Felder is no angel and totally without blame.

Pretty hard to find SNL clips.

Plus I'm a Peter Stroud fan and really don't want to demean him in any way.

I read Felder's book last year, and just finished reading To The Limit a few weeks ago. Both books make Henley and Frey out to be total asshats. IMO, To The Limit doesn't give Felder enough coverage, nor enough credit.

Felder and Bramford Marselis both hopped up to sit in with a band I jam with now and again a couple months ago. Real class act and seems to be a super nice guy.
