Tornado(s) in Alexandria, VA?

Tornados yesterday? You N.VA guys ok?

My sister said a twister just tore the crap out of her condo complex on Wellington. Her barbeque grill went airborne & hasn't been seen since!

You guys OK?

Whoa really? I live in Arlington (just a few miles north of Alexandria), and we got a bit of heavy rain but nothing too bad.

it was a line of 70 mph blows ... 40-60 trees down, GW Pkwy closed, etc.

downtown just a lot of rain, traffic lights out, gridlock (my usual 30 min. ride home was 1 hr, could've been 2 if we didn't take a couple of shortcuts we know)... we just had moderate rain in north Arlington just a few miles away... since we have 2 120'+ Oaks right behind our house I do worry about this (they will fall on the house if they ever fall)...

I didn't know your sister was here, Mark, if you ever get down for a visit be sure to let me know.

Jon

We had a 3.6 rumble on the East Coast. Not the same thing, I know. Still, kind'of a freaky weather season. YMMV

...I was passing through Vienna yesterday around 5:30pm and there were a lot of trees/limbs down, one on a house. The streets were littered with leaves and small branches. Tornado? Maybe!

I left work at 5:30 PM yesterday and didn't get into my front door until a quarter to 9. Other than that, what high winds?!

we had one here in Virginia Beach a few weeks ago, near lynnhaven mall I think. I spotted a funnel one time on dam neck a few years ago...

Im not surprised we get tornados here near the beach but a few years ago when I went to NYC to see the Beastie Boys in Brooklyn the day before the show a tornado touched down, they said that hadnt happened in 20+ years.

No damage to my house as far as I can see. Others are less fortunate. I'm glad my power company is Dominion Virginia and not PEPCO. My former coworker posted pics of a tree that fell on her car, but somehow did not damage it.

Wow, I had no trouble going from Tysons to 7100/50 leaving @ 4:30. My neighborhood didn't seem to be beat up at all, just some small branches and leaves, but there were a couple trees down along the way home, thankfully just OFF the road though.

It seems traffic all around DC was practically at a standstill for hours. I had a gig last night in Falls Church. Had to stop in North Arlington to pick up our saxophonist and the PA speakers. I had left work in Beltsville at 4:30. It took me until 7:50 to get to North Arlington. We loaded up the truck and hightailed it to Falls Church, set up, and started playing 90 minutes after the official start time.

My wife was working in Old Town yesterday and swears that a tornado came through. I came down the GW Pkwy pretty late last night and there were branches and trees down everywhere once I got close to Old Town. My neighborhood seems to be fine. There were a bunch of trees down in Fairlington (where I grew up).

My sister is in Old Town. She says she watched it come up the street & right through her backyard.

I lived there for a year and Old Town is a pain in bad weather of any sort. All street parking, narrow roads, TONS of trees, etc. Disaster zone any time bad weather hits.

Metro was gridlocked at 6pm. Got to station at 550. Not a train until 615. Packed line 'dines for a 45 min ride that should be 20.

Worst public transportation ever. It might be clean and A/C'ed but it's run my total and complete incompetent cheats and idiots.
