Compare SUHR RIOT, CATALINBREAD SCOD, FULLTONE OCD or GREENHOUSE "ROADKILL"

Hey guys,

leaning towards adding a Suhr Riot to my board but also tempted by the SCOD, Greenhouse "Roadkill"/"Nobrainer" or an older version OCD. Mainly will be used for guitar lead works.

Your thoughts?

I've had all three. All great pedals. However, only my OCD remains. To me, it seems the most versatile and dynamic.

What OCD version do you have? Also, have you tried any Greenhouse effects (Roadkill and Nobrainer)?

1.4, but with a blue LED and no arrows around the dials.

Just picked up a Riot about 3 weeks ago, Its flat out awesome, I play allot of jam band type music, umphreys mcgee kind of stuff, some classic rock , allmans, zeppelin etc- and the Riot is a bit Overkill for the classic tones with your guitar volume full on, but rolled back you can dial in a more Classic rock sound-

By FAR the pedal excels for soloing, tapping & hammering, lots of gain on tap- making a joy to play through-

I Backed the Mi Audio crunch box forever, love that pedal till death does me part with it, but the Suhr riot is challenging the high gain position on my pedalboard which is currently held by the crunchbox. For now I've been using both, having 6 type drive/boost/dist pedals on my board right now is kind of nuts- the current plan is to go klon for boost, gristle king for low gain> riot for high gain> Halo bender for a open fuzz like sound- I've bumped the box of rock and crunch box for now, I might make a marshall sounding board with those 2- both amazing pedals but the like the fluidic feel of the riot, theres been some complaints of it sounding "plastic" but to me its a very useable sound.

similar experience here - but I found that when comparing the riot to the crunchbox, the riot was definitely more flexible and cleaned up better, but it wasn't $100+ better than the crunchbox. You can still find a crunchbox for ~$75, and it does the med-high gain marshall thing as well as any pedal I've tried, Riot and OCD included.

Another thing I forgot to mention was, I feel the suhr riot is neutral in voicing, its not like the crunch box which is voiced like a JCM800, or a box of rock which is voiced like a JTM45 , the riot is just a Generic (for lack of better terms) kick ass distortion sound that works good with any amp

so far I've had the riot plugged into the following amps and have had Great results.

Landry 50 watt head> Avatar 1x12 cab with a 75 watt celestion
Black Face 60's Fender Deluxe
Fender 57' 5E3 Deluxe (Modded for more headroom)
Peavy Classic 30 combo
Mesa boogie heart breaker 2x12 combo
JCM800 2205/ 4x12 cab
JCM800 2203 KT88 / 4x12 cab
Fender Blues Jr was the worst of the batch- the riot can overload the lil' thing- at low vol it sounded cool ,can't crank it though.

Favorite of the mix has been the Landry, kick ass amp-
I have a vid I can put up of a friend playing his with the riot and a nifty Tokai guitar.

Glad to hear I was leaning the right way with the Riot. I have a Tone King Metropolitan, and plan on using the clean channel as base, the amp's Lead channel as a dirt/break up channel, and the Riot as lead or heavy distorted option.

Is the Riot hissy or quiet? One thing I noticed with my TKM is that it really brings out the quality of the pedal in terms of noise when plugged in; in other words, if the pedal is no good you will be able to hear the noise.

The Riot is a very quiet pedal, especially considering how much gain it has.

I had an OCD and now I have a Riot

What I like is that the Riot is a more modern high gain sound and not really a Marshally type pedal. That being said when you roll the volume back a bit with the riot you can get a more classic rock tone too

I could see using both the Riot and the OCD since they both have their own tones

Right now I use the Riot of more high gain and a Signa Drive for a lower gain crunch

I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it

One thing I also liked was I found a lot of the higher gain pedals either have scooped mids or too much mids. This can be great for rhythm but I always found on leads it sounds really thin

The Riot has just the right amount that you can get a nice crunch then go to a solo and it still sounds full

My experience is between the OCD (v.2 and v.3) and the Riot.

First, I should clarify, I absolutely love the OCD. Great medium crunch tones that always sound big and full - and clear.

Now the Riot kicked my Crunchbox off my board (loved the CB at lower volumes but it tended to get boxy at higher volumes). I was then running my OCD into the Riot. I tried an experiment and stacked two OCD's thinking that it would kick the Riot off the board.

The two OCD's sounded good for a while but since they're so similar there was this phasing problem and the tone would thin out some. Tried it at a gig and at higher volumes, it just wasn't working.

I had my Riot in my bag and so I swapped one of the OCD's out and everything opened up again. I still think the OCD has more transparency to it but since the OCD and the Riot are voiced differently, they seem to work well together.

So I'd have to say that while I appreciate the more organic feel and sound of the OCD more, the Riot is definitely a keeper. So for the moment, they both have a place on my board.
