How Many of You Actually Can Justify a WAH?

I have a Vox 847a wah that i occasionally plug in that otherwise i really don't use. Obviously everyone uses their wah in a lead part but i really can't find any other uses for it. What do you guys use your wah pedals for, and how often do you use it?

There is a wah on my board and has been for well over 10 years...do I use it every song...no.

That siad there are very few pedals on my board that get used in every song.

I like a little wah now and then for effect...I use it like anybody else would, you know...Clapton style. I also use it as a tone filter now and then...find that sweet spot and walk away and sometimes I'll put it all the way up or all the way down for really dramatic tones...

Be creative with and you'll find neat things.

I've gone back and forth many times about having it on my board.... I now leave it off. If I want it for a show, I pack it and run it on the ground before my board..... half the time I pack it for a show I never even set it up. Wahs are best used sparingly in my opinion anyway.

I do use a rangemaster on my board that will give me a bit of that filtered/cocked wah grind for a solo.... so that is much more handy and practical.

I use mine for one song. I'm okay with that.

Absolutely essential for certain material that we play. Plus, it's a must-have for that half-cocked Schenker goodness. And I love the sound - it's a super-creative pedal, but you have to really mess around with one to find out what it can do, for a given song.

Use a wah if YOU want to.
I do, and love my 847, too.
To doubters I say: Poo-poo!

Justification means nothing to the person who plays for themselves. Not with themselves.

I use it for all kinds of things that don't equate "typical wah wah sounds". I use it for frequency-volume swells, notched eq stuff, mute/muffled lead lines, and of course good ol' funk and rhythm patches.

I got my DOD FX-17 as my 13th birthday present, and that was 20 years ago. It's still on my board and I use it all the time for everything from slow filter swells to bom-chika-wow-wow porn sountrack type of stuff.

Filter stuff, classic wah stuff and Zakk Wylde style harmonics on mine. However to save space I got a Vwah because it has a foot-controlable uni-vibe in it too.
If I saw someone in a pub using a wah like Kirk Hammet I would take it off them though. :-)

I have just an off the shelf cheap regular Dunlop/Crybaby (sounds fine to me) that I bought probably 10 years ago now- truth is, it wasn't too long after getting it I realized it was just being used on a few songs, took up floor space, and was an extra 5 pounds to carry... So it stays home but I'll hold on to just in case I need it.

I like having mine on my board but I could definitely do without it if I had too.

I've haven't used one at all in recent years and I have 3 very nice Wahs. Since I always run my Wah first, It's easy to just carry one separately and patch it in if I ever need one. However, I don't have one on my board anymore.

If I didn't have a wah I'd be plugged straight into the amp.

As it is, I only really use it when covering certain songs. Alice in Chains Dirt or Rage Against the Machine's Bulls on Parade for example.
