The Band, Rock Of Ages: SO great

Just picked up the 2 CD remastered version, has a ton of extra tracks. It's like Fender tone 101 - such great sounds and as far as heart in the playing goes, well, it's The Band. Just an awesome record - anyone else out there have the new version and dig it?

LOVE that record, especially with the horn section... I didn't know that a "new" version was out, I'll have to get it!

Hate to tell you this, but I'm pretty sure that Robbie was playing MusicMan stuff on that record... he went where Leo went, as far as amps and guitars went. No matter, he gets incredible tones and I've always loved his playing!

I'm very glad that I had the chance to see the Band on numerous occaisions - funny thing is, they took a lot of heat from critics and fans alike, for doing such "note-perfect" renditions of their songs when nearly EVERYONE ELSE was jamming on and on, ad infinitum, with extended solos, etc....

One of, if not THE, favorite group of mine in their hey-day... even the records that were put out after the initial break-up were very good, especially when compared with most of the dreck that's out today.

BTW, if you haven't got Levon's record, "Electric Dirt", be sure to check it out! Very good sounds from the "leader" of the Band!

The remastered 2 disk version has been out for several years. Adds some extra "Band" tunes plus tracks with Dylan. Great sound, and the extra tracks are nice.

One of the all-time great albums for sure.

This seems to come up regularly and I'm in the camp that it is one of the greatest recordings ever, live or otherwise. Often I hear praises for the more famous farewell concert which I find to be the anti-Rock of Ages.
