Heard about that on the news last night, but there weren't many details yet. Horrible.

wow that sucks... but self preservation comes into play here... stand that close and you better expect to get hit if something goes wrong.

I've often wondered why more spectators aren't hurt in rally-type racing.

Prayers for all the families who lost loved ones, or are injured.

That said, what do they expect standing that close to the action. Good grief.

I've been in and around motor sports for more than 30 yrs. and these folks/this type of action is pure idiocy ... a matter of when, not if, carnage like that will happen.

Not sure why some in the crowd were angry at the driver??? This has been a tragedy just waiting to happen for years. People line the course, for cryin' out loud!!! Same thing has happened in Europe, although I don't think with this number of deaths. The only thing that is shocking to me is it hasn't happened before now. Terribly tragic and at the same time entirely preventable. Yes, I know there are sections of track that may not be viewable without lining the track, but you shouldn't have to risk your life just to watch a race. Just my opinion...take it with a grain of salt.

I feel horrible for the people who were there -- probably having a great time in the desert, too.

It can happen in half a second, too. I was at a mud-bog racing event once when a blown rail job went somersaulting past me. Gave me the damned shivers.

Worst accident ever was at LeMans in 1955. A car flew into the crowd and killed 83 people. Then two years later at the Mille Miglia a flashy playboy driver had a blown tire and went into the crowd, killing eight people. The race was banned after that.

I hope this doesn't force any changes in the racing.

I think the Euro car rallys are just as crazy if not moreso. People are lined up along the track and cars are all the time going out of control, flipping and going off course.

kind of like this

Not the racing, more in how close spectators are allowed to get to 4,000 trucks flying through the air at 80MPH.

Well, maybe some changes to the rules of the race: Billy Joe's beer cooler (with Billy Joe sitting on it) will no longer be used as the course marker for turn four...
