Interest in '67 100W Plexi Power Scaled Kit?

We've reached an agreement with London Power whereby we can offer power scaled amp kits, which would include a complete power scaling board from Soultone, designed for specific use. This was settled nearly a year ago, but I've had some trepidation about offering a new product with consumer spending so low, so we held off.

The first kit we are considering offering would be the 67 Plexi, with specific changes to the chassis, panels, and power board to make it an integrated power scaling amp. It would included all the parts needed, and include a soultone HD power scaling board, designed specifically for the 100W plexi. The mercury magnetics transformer set would include a MP-100-460-S power transformer, which is custom wound version of the MP-100-460 built for soultone power scaled amps. There would be an option for a solid state loop board, which would include the appropriate rear panels and a pre-stuffed loop board, ready to drop in the amp.

The big question we have here is if the market is right... so, if you're interested, or think there would be interest in such a product, please let us know!

Thanks!

Desirability for the product? Very High. It sounds like a great build.

Current purchasing habits? At the moment, very low. It's a tough economy still.

That's a good amp to try scaling on. If I were building a dream amp to get plexi tone at a useable volume, I'd also include a switchable, post-pi volume, a 2 tube mode and perhaps a triode switch. All of that should allow you to drop volume to low gig levels without any artifacts. Just using the LP power scaling by itself hasn't been really satisfying to me (I've got a LP Studio amp which is only 10w, but backing it down to bedroom or even comfortable small room levels with the scaling changes the tone to a cardboardy thing to my ears).

That said, sounds like a cool build and very marketable. How much would the power scaling increase the cost?

I'd be interested. Maybe the time is right now. At the moment, I'm waiting on the LP SB2 to install in another kit amp. Once it's done, I'll sell it and hope to build another (maybe the TUT 5100 if not a Soultone PS kit).

I guess the 100 watter has more of a tone legacy, maybe offering a 50 Watter would save those interested a few bucks $$?

...although I guess the whole point is to have a 100 watter and scale it, I get that, sounds cool. It does seem like there are a lot less people offering kits these days?, too bad too, as it eliminates cool offerings like you are putting out here.

I bet Mickey knows to make a 50 watter sound like a 100 watter. Although it probably wouldn't end up any less expensive...
