NFL Preseason: Week 2
Texans v. Saints
The good: Thank God it was only preseason. The bad: Everything. Texans' first team defense missed tackles, blew assignments and got their asses handed to them by the world champs. They made Reggie Bush look like Chris Johnson and made the undrafted Chase Daniels look like the second coming of Drew Brees. The first team offense hardly moved the ball and needed penalties to bail them out. Then there were the turnovers. Still haven't cured the fumbleitis. The ugly: Texans wanted a measuring stick to see where they stand against the best. After the Saints beat them like a redheaded stepchild, they better look for another stick. Saints look like they haven't missed a beat. Drew Brees made one "holy sh*t" play in particular in the red zone where he was falling down and threw a bullet to Colston at the one. I picked them as the NFC representative in the Super Bowl and I saw nothing last night to change my mind. |

Dome was nearly packed for a friggin preseason game, so 'intangible' card goes to Nawlins.
Texans will be fine.

Chase Daniels played freakin great! I didnt realize he was undrafted. IMHO the Saints were all on the same page as a team, the Texans were playing as individuals. Seemed like they struggled in just about every catagory.

In a way I'm glad the Texans took a beating. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call because the schedule is brutal and they need to understand that they're going to have to bring their best every week if they want to take the next step as a team. They've been doing a lot of talking about the playoffs this year but they're going to have to do more than talk.
Next week we get the Cowgirls, so that will be another good test. |

Good: Mathews, O-line, possesion.

"Player intros" was near regular season level. There were moments it was loud, but still had a preseason vibe. Town's been partying for 6 months, so.....

The 1's played the entire first half and I guess they wanted to see (a) how Slaton performed returning kicks (one of the few bright spots); (b) why they couldn't run the ball to the left side; and (3) if he was going to fumble again.

Dixon should get the start for Ben while Ben is suspended...but Lefty will instead...and he will get killed and then Dixon will step in.

actually the third week for the cowboys, first offensive touch down,
yyyyyyyyeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaww. Really though the safety was cheap way to win, though going to overtime in a presession game sucks more. |

The Bad News Bears saga continues...loved the temporary long snapper...what were THEY thinking? You mean nobody else on the whole friggin' team can snap a ball back to the kicker?
How about the awesome return specialist? He was about 3 feet from the ball and thought he had it. He didn't. Embarrasing to say the least. Especially for him!! |

Chargers vs. Cowboys:
Good: Running game: Matthews continues to break tackles and impress, Tolbert looking good as relief runner for Matthews, run-blocking very good - a lot of this against the Dallas 1-string D. Run-blocking seems to be better but Matthews was also breaking tackles that would have brought down LT. Run defense: once again looked strong from 1st-string to 3rd string. Rivers showed why he is the leader of the Chargers (calls a QB sneak for himself, makes physical tackle after fumble). Impressive catches by roster hopeful WR Seyi Ajirotutu. Bad: Nothing really terrible, just typical performance of the 3rd stringers Ugly: Sproles' fumble, giving up the safety for the Dallas win. |

Denver vs. Detroit:
The good, I got to go to the game with my parents, my siblings, and their spouses. Orton looked pretty good, despite a tipped pass (by his receiver -- butter fingers) that resulted in a long interception return by Bly. The bad, Denver's run defense was pourous. I could have driven a Mack truck through the middle of their defensive line untouched. Tebow didn't play. The Broncos lost. Looks like it's going to be another long season in Denver. |
