My live sound - suggestions please
I may regret posting this, but here is a video of my band playing Sultans of Swing at our gig last Friday. The rig is a 65 Trini Lopez through a 'Vibroclone' Vibroverb replica with some reverb and boost from a Line 6 M13. It was the first time I gigged the guitar and amp.
I know I screw up a couple of times (including having to play around the fact my b-string slips out of the nylon saddle during the first solo) - but my playing is not the subject of this post. I was hoping to get you guys input on the tone. I think I have a poor ear when it comes to tone so was looking for suggestions as to what people think is good / bad about the tone and what would improve it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I listened to the whole song. Sounded great to me except it seems that you could use a little more sustain somehow. I have the same problem with cleans though.
That guitar really need a setup. Huh? You were smoking every note perfect here and there then the string would go twangggggghhhhggg Was it popping out of the nut or bridge saddle? I don't think I'd change much, maybe add a bit of comp and maybe a tad more verb. It's really hard to make an assessment from a video cam recording though. Good work though, you nailed all the fills I was expecting to hear. Nicely done. |

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen man! I actually never use a compressor but my M13 has one so I will definitely give that a try. I think I am going to start using the 'verb on my amp too - it's much richer than the M13.
The guitar has since had a quick setup, but I suspect it is due to the nylon saddles that the string is popping out (it is coming out at the bridge). I need to get some replacements (and store the originals of course). |

No prob. It was obvious that the "weak link" was the instrument. Good call replacing the saddles. I would just put a new TOM on there and save a lot of unscrewing and screwing. Then you can throw the original in a plastic bag and save it.
I bet you'll be happy with the switch. |
