Do you or folks you know have a hobby?

I remember when I was a kid (50s) most men or families had hobbies ,where you did or made things...model airplanes, gem cutting, astronomy, woodworking, stuff like that.

A lot of this seems to be fading away, like decent club gigs, and probably for many of the same reasons (The Game or DVDs on big screen, etc).

Just curious...anyone still at something like this?

I play mediocre blues on:

A Guild (westerly RI) 12 string dread
A beat-up Japanese (Conrad) dread with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides,
An Epiphone Riviera Deluxe with GFS pickups, through a weird modified Guild amp I got from Champlifer, here.

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky.
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why.

I repair/build effects pedals and repair tube amps.

I'm also a part-time make-up artist although I use the term "artist" loosely. Mainly character make-up and gore.

I also makes props (arms, heads, horns etc) for Halloween stores and haunted houses. Just finishing up a batch of horns this week.

My Mom collects Bryer Horses and oil lamps. My Dad has been collecting Avon related things since he was a child. Even with the reduced values he has 10's of thousands of dollars in his collection.

Fantasy Sports, and pretty much every area of Music I can dabble in. There you go. Sports and Music. Oh, and reading. Folks tend to forget that recreational reading is indeed a hobby.

But back when I was a kid, I would go to the Hobby House and build model rockets and R/C cars up the hoo-hah. Even did a bit of model building in my day, like military helicopters and muscle cars from ERTL. Gave up those hobbies by the middle of high school though, when I got into, uh...girls.

So yeah, the main ones were these:

I have had several over the years. Civil War reenactor, breeding chameleons, beer brewing and kayaking. I am a geologist so I collect rocks still. I guess cooking is my main hobby now. Trying to learn some chemical cooking tricks.

My wife does genealogy for her fun.

I turn out about 2 pieces of furniture a year. I have built chests, custom shelving and some trim work for friends here and there.

I was really into model cars as a kid. Still do it now and again. I also love HO model trains and will someday build a new layout in my basement. I build and fly model rockets on occasion. I have a couple that still need to be built. For the most part though, hunting and guitars are my main passions.

I'm a Revolutionary War reenactor, I build and fly R/C model airplanes, I build and paint scale or wargame models, I enjoy building amps and pedals, and I like trying out and using things that have been technologically outdated for many years. Tack on guitar playing to that I guess.

TV is wayyyyy too precious to people nowadays.

Besides guitar playing / my band / writing songs (which is my main hobby) I also am heavily involved in:

- Bocce Ball (have a court in my backyard and have a team that competes in a few tournaments every year)

- Fishing (walleye, perch, steelhead trout, largemouth bass -- N/E Ohio is the best fishing area of the world and you can't convince me otherwise!!)

- Landscaping (love cutting and caring for lawns, and other landscaping jobs)

- Shooting (pistols)

- Grilling (have a collection of grilling books and I grill meat recipes all the time)

- The Cleveland Browns (yes, the Browns are that important to me that it is my hobby)

I have a lot of friends that if you asked them to make a list like this, they couldnt put one thing. They go to work, get home, eat dinner watch tv, fall asleep -- then do it all over again every single day. I know its not my place to tell people how to live their life and what THEY should do, but sometimes I just wanna shake them and say "DO something!"

I restore classic motorcycles. Sometimes for myself and sometimes for other guys.

Like this one......

I've restored a couple of cars as well.....but that's too much of a PITA.

Reading, listening to music, cooking Indian food. I was really into R/C cars as a kid, but lost interest when I got into making music.
