10" Speaker Help Puh-LEEEEZZZZ!!!

I need to find a 10" speaker (8 ohm) that will break up early with smooth overdrive and not have that ice pick in the head treble chime that my current Jensen P10R has. Going in a 5 watt Bad Cat mini. Looking at the Jensen P10Q, Scumnico 10", Celestion G10 and anything else that may fit the early breakup - smooth overdrive - non icepick in the forehead bill. Any help is appreciated.

try a scumback H75. I really like my 12" cannabis rex and they make a 10, but I've only had the 12. Using a combintion of greenbacks and weber 10A125's in a 4x10 for marshalls that is pretty nice. Lastly... if you can find those old alnico fender blue labels that they put in the reissue bassman... they are very nice... think I saw one in the emporium for $35.

I'd suggest an Emi Lil Buddy, Red Fang 10" or Tone Tubby.

That Scumback SA10H-30 watt is looking pretty tempting especially since he does the whole break in thing. I'll have to search for more info on the Tone Tubby - but the seem mucho expensive and the clips I have heard are not all that impressive. The Emi Lil Buddy has conflicting sound reviews - some people say it is bright - some say it is warm... who knows???

Are you ever going to get speaker break-up from a 5 watt amp? I though the whole idea of speaker break-up was driving a speaker towards it's operations limits.

If you're looking to smooth out the high end just look at the frequency response charts on the manufacturer's websites. My guess also is a Red Fang would be more ice-picky then the P10R you have.

This Mini Cat amp breaks up when it is pushed - but it is not smooth and it is really loud. I don't mind the loud bit - I just don't like all the treble. Matchless Lil Monster breaks up fairly easy as well and that is a low wattage amp. I need to search what speaker they put in that because it is closer to the tone I am looking for.

OK, so we're not talking about Speaker Break up at all.

Not sure if a different speaker will "Smooth" out your break up, that characteristic comes more from the amp. Not saying speaker can't effect it, but your not going to go from tweed to marshall breakup with a speaker swap. Now if you are just trying to roll off the highs, then the speaker swap can take care of that nicely.

I have a SA10H-30 (close to a 10" version of the H75 I mentioned above) in a princeton reverb and like it a lot. Have a couple of TT's I'm trying in 12 - jury still out. One of the few 10's I have not tried is the c-gold... but the 12 is really a great speaker.

Yeah - I'm not finding a lot of sound samples - good samples - of the C- Gold. The specs look like it will be a bright speaker though. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Scumback.

The Lil Buddy isn't bright, its smooth and thick, like a milkshake. It doesn't get rid of the highs, but they sound more liquid and less piercing.
Having said that, I think you'll be very happy with the Scumback, they're great speakers.
