Converting a Front Ported Closed Back 2x12 Cab into a Semi-Open Back

I have a 2x12 Front Ported Closed Back Cab. I would like to convert it to a Semi-Open Back Cab.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to do this?
Could I cut off say a couple inchs off the top, middle or bottom?
What would be the best way to block off the two front ports?
