Yet another speaker question
I have a 212 closed back loaded with Private Jacks. Speakers sound good with plenty of punch, but I would like to have slightly less high end and thicker in the bottom. What speaker suggestion would get me in that ball park?

Replace one with a Cannibus Rex maybe?

I thought about doing that too. Wonder if two Swamp Thangs would give that deeper kick in the low end and curve the highs a tad?

Open the back of the cab. Bob

Opening the cab back will change the sound some, but won't give more low end. Swamp Thang will give a strong low end - I might try replacing one of the PJs with a Swamper first. The Cannabis Rex is a great speaker, and might have a bit more bass than the PJ, but I would describe them as "thick in the middle" and slightly rolled off highs. I would go with Swamp to give lows and CR for thick liquid tones with a bit less treble. If you like some of what the PJ is doing, you might keep one PJ and try one or the other new speaker depending on which area you think needs changing most. Neither the CR or Swamp is a "British voiced" speaker like the PJ, so you'll lose some of the edge and "crang".

Thanks everyone.....Doc I think I may just pull the PJ's and put either two Swamps or pair one up with a CR. I just want more low thump.....for me it is easier to dial the lows out with your amp but harder to tame the highs. My amp is pretty balanced so maybe what I'm hearing is the "crang" you mentioned.

For grins try running it with the back off. Bob

Oh,..well Im a bit surprised. It is an easy "try" though. I find most closed backs to sound tighter, more focused with less but tighter bass and more percieved high end. Anyhow, good luck! Hopefully you will nail it with your next speaker choice. (Ive got a pile of speakers in my closet lol! )Bob

Eminence Legend GB12? similar to the PJ at 50watts with a darker/lower end keeping the "greenback" style/feel...
...at least that's what I've read. Got three coming in soon. Just need a fourth one to fill up a 4x12.

If it sounded great with that combo you might consider just opening the back and getting that pair of Celestions in your cab. I tend to like the sound (and price) of the Eminences very well, however.

If you are considering changing both speakers, then the Scumback M75/H75 combo is where its at.......IMO
