Which Effects for blues?
What's the most commonly used effects pedals to help get that bluesy tone besides delay and overdrive?
Thanks in advace Last edited by chewbaca0; 09-07-2010 at 05:10 PM. |

tremolo and leslie rotating speaker were common. otherwise, it depends on the time period of blues you're talking about. i know most of the people here play bl00z and TGP is home to some of the most pretentious and obscene pedalboards of all time. so apparently the correct answer is "all of them"

All you need is feel for blues, add a little over drive if you wanna a little something.

A little dirt that cleans up with your guitar volume knob and some reverb and you're good to go!

I think a good Keeley Compression pedal helps with sustain. Also, you might try using thicker strings for a little more "umph" in your lead work.

Rub the grease from a chicken bone on the strings before you play. Um...That's all I got!

A good Ring Modulator and an EHX MicroSynth will give you that classic Jimmy Reed tone.

For blues, most guys don't use many effects, if any. An overdrive, typically a tweed based overdrive (like the Clark Gainster, or Greer Ghetto Stomp). Lots of SRV guys still use the Tube Screamer pedals. Delay is used by a few guys but not many. If delay is used, it is set for more of a slap back delay. Reverb is always good.
Other stuff you might see is a tremelo pedal or some other sort of rotary or vibe pedal. |

I would suggest NOT using a compressor. I know it can add sustain, but the price you pay is less dynamics.. which is what I love about the blues.
The Tim would be a good dirt or hair pedal for blues. I also like tremolo and reverb. I like using my musket when i play BlackKeys type of blues.
