I think you will like the Astro Tone that Analogman makes. The tone knob lets you dial in EXACTLY how much bottom end you want to keep. That's it's amazing selling point.

First one is live, with the band, the second one is just fooling around in the bedroom. These are through an AC30 and a Tweed Deluxe, respectively.

Don't think that's fuzzy enough for me!
Sounds great though!

Friend of mine uses one of these and it sure does sound thick...

Thing is, where/how can I get hold of one?

This doesn't sound bad and is readily available for cheap:

Me and the other guitarist in my band both had one of these and they were TERRIBLE for us.
instead of sustaining a smooth note it would fart out and it was just really odd. ( not in a good way)
Just sounded awful to us so we both sold them...
Then again, friends of ours use them and they sound OK.
I'd rather just play a standard big muff though, sounds much thicker...

Have you had any experience with one?

Only played one in a store through a DeVille and it sounded great.
I don't own one though...
I own a D*A*M Ram Head that rocks the crap out of my amp for that thick and smooth sound (and I have a Psionic Audio 3.14 as well), but I know they're hard to come by and therefore kinda pointless to suggest .

I've not really looked into anything about Tonebenders in any shape or form...

For thick and smooth fuzz should I be looking into Tonebenders and their many clones?

Perhaps a fuzz that lets you dial in the input gain in addition to the fuzz amount...like the Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom or the MI Audio GI Fuzz. Cranking up the input gain really thickens the fuzz tones in my experience.

I've had experience with the Tone Wicker Muff, and as a fuzz-obsessed hobbyist and musician I have to say it is very good, that takes good care of my high gain needs at the moment in my main pedalboard, and that I don't really see it going anywhere. The consensus from all the previous threads seems quite positive, too. But I wanted to make two remarks... a. "Thickest" does not mean that it will also be the "smoothest", b. don't expect some sort of "tubescreamerized" fuzz. Somehow I think you expect it to be too gentle!

I wouldn't put Tonebenders into that category at all. Meathead, great suggestion (also very time-consuming to find). The Ultimate Octave - without the octave - is one of my most favourites, too, for that role. But again, your definition of "smooth" might be completely different than what a fuzz is supposed to do.

Smooth and thick fuzz, either a DAM Meathead of a Burns Buzzaround. Earthquaker Devices has a custom shop pedal which is a clone of the Buzzaround called the Sound Shank.I own one of these and the sound is just amazing.
