TV Jones pu's in a Duesenberg? Anyone taken the plunge?
So I have a very nice star player TV Fullerton, the double cutaway one. It plays great, acoustically its lovely , it ticks all the boxes, but i am sure i can get better pu's for it. I have 2 other main guitars that sound freakin incredible. A lovely tele and a 61 sg Les Paul Junior. I need the Doozie to sit in the mix with these two. at the moment when i plug it in even though it is bright, the bottom end in the thing is so huge that it makes it sound hollow and undefined. yes, its a hollow body but the bottom end frequencies from this thing are on a different level. It's not unplayable( actually, the center position that's wired for extra twang is unusable), but the bridge and neck on their own do sound really good, but I'm wondering if i might benefit from a pair of TV Jones classic pu's in it. Has anyone got any experience with the TV Jones pu in a doozie? from what I can hear the bridge pu sounds great but the neck pu sounds a bit thin. Will they make the doozie sound like a Gretsch?

I love the bridge pickup in mine. I dont care for the p90 at all. The middle position I love for cleans, but never with dirt.
I wouldn't mind changing out the p90.......

I have changed the PU's in my doozie (Star Player TV Fullerton) for TV Jones - Power trons.
There are a couple of issues, in that the size of the TV Jones mounts don't really fit the guitar so you end up with a small exposed hole, also you need to change to pots to 500K for the TV Jones's, (tone in the Doozie is 300K) so to do it you need to commit to it beacuase its not a 2 minute job. Sonically it has been a change worth making. I needed this guitar for a very specific job, chimey cleans in the Gretsch ballpark, but I wanted something a bit different to the Gretsch tone, and it's great. The bottom end is massive , in OD context, its too massive and gets real flubby real quick, (this is the nature of the guitar, this won't change no matter what pu's you put in it) but for cleans with a touch of hair, it works great. The problem I had with the original pu's was the output. I just couldn't balance this guitar with my other instuments, its was so loud. In fact, its still pretty loud, nature of the instrument I guess, but I can now pull it out for a couple of songs in the set for a different tonality without it blowing a hole through the audience. The Bigsby is the best Bigsby style thing I've ever played, its beautiful, smooth and solid. It feels really great to play, looks beautiful and now has a sound I can use. It's a Korean instrument but ( and I don't mean the 'but' to incinuate that there's anything wrong with Korean made instruments, over the past few years I have played some stonking stuff that came out of Korea) it has got a certain mojo about it. I recorded the first track on the new 'Tin Spirits - Wired to Earth' album with it. So yes, for me, it has been very worthwhile, didn't like the stock pu's at all, now I have an instrument that performs a very speific function very well, and I'm really happy with it.
