Thinking about an axis any advice?

Thinking about an axis with a locking trem any advice on what to look for?
Certain years, models? Sport/super sport?
Which ones have the gotoh trem?
Anyone know a good dealer or place to score one used?
Would like to stay under $1,000.
Thanks

I don't know a lot about them but Guitar Center in Madison had a used one a couple of months ago. I couldn't put it down. It' felt small & compact which worked for me since I'm on the shorter side.
It was well played but still in good condition. They wanted $700. I went back the next week to try it again and it was gone.

I see a few on GC website used. I'm kind of liking the amber quiltops.

I can't speak to the trem, my Axis SS was a hardtail. It was my #1 for a good 2-3 years, and for me that's an eternity. They're great guitars, and as far as I know there are no particular years to avoid. I prefer the Super Sport variant only because it's got a little more switching versatility. As far as places to look, I bought mine on ebay about 5 years ago for around $750. Sold it here in the emporium for about the same. The only thing some folks don't like is that the neck is a bit on the smaller side. I have smaller hands, so it worked out perfectly for me.

Good luck!

Yes; they have always used a Floyd made by Gotoh going back to when the guitar was the EVH Signature. Since Rose's patents have expired the current ones no longer say "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents".

Probably my favorite hard rock tone comes from Breaking Benjamin which uses the axis.

One place to look used is the EBMM Forum. There's one in your price range for sale there at the moment.

Just to be clear, the Sport and SuperSport variants don't come with a Floyd. As for good years and what to look for, they're all good and very consistent. Figure out what color you want and whether you want a maple or rosewood board. The BFR Axis are a bit different in terms of body materials (alder w/mahogany tone block if memory serves) but those are likely beyond your pain threshold.

I recently got my second Axis SS (a rosewood limited w/trem to go with my rosewood limited hardtail) and love them to death.

I have had 5 Axises. I like the solid ash Sport that is no longer made better than the Super Sports with the maple tops. The Sports just sound better. Well, these ones I have, anyway. But I'll bet that rosewood one is killer.

Very nice score as you mostly see them all rosewood in SS and not a regular Axis. After 30 years as a die hard Fender fanatic I have been into EBMM for the last 5 years and they are incredible instruments, and the best necks out there. The Axis is my favorite model but now that the AL has come out in an all humbucker configuration with rosewood neck and mahogany body the ax just slays. I guess I am not the onlyone who saw it in a different light as it was a huge seller this year. Same pups as the Axis with a little bigger neck=check one out.
