Has anyone wired their own power cables?
Hi guys,
Im looking at re-wireing my pedalboad. Everyone knows good brands for signal cables (Evidence Audio, Lava, Mogami...) and ends (Neutrik and Switchcraft). What about wiring your own powercables? I have a Voodoo Labs pedal power II plus and want to make my own cables (streight at the power supply, right angle at pedals). Has anyone had any experience with this? Any suggestions for brands etc? Cheers, Tom |

Tom - Voodoo labs sells pre-made one-end cables that you could customize. I'm guessing that at 3.50 each it'd be cheaper than trying to start from scratch in small volume.
5.5mm x 2.1mm Cable With No End Plug (right-angle)This cable is bare on the end and has one right-angle 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug to connect to the Pedal Power. Use this to make your own longer length or custom cables! PP36-R: $3.50 - Approximately 36” long. Hope that helps!

He's talking about the power cables not instrument cables. For what it's worth, I've used George L's on both of my pedal boards for years with not a single failure and one of boards traveled 160,000 miles last year with me. Your results may vary...

I know these guys make them, thought it would be a bit of fun to do the whole lot myself. And what if I needed some that were longer than 36"? Im sure the guys at Voodoo Labs could help out there... |

I have done it, bought the little 2.1 barrel ends. Fiddledicked with the tiny wire with my fat fingers and the soldering iron. Some profanity was needed. The right angles I could buy locally were shite. I have gone to pre made cables and if it's a little long, I just zip tie a loop or two out of the line of sight. For me, the home made process served a purpose, but I abandoned it once I accumulated better pre-made cables. You can find them. For me the right angle at both ends is the hot ticket.

I was thinking about the same thing!
Captain, do those cables only come with one right angle? What about the other tip? Does it come with it loose, or would you have to buy those extra? Is there a schematic somewhere that tells you which wire goes where so you dont fry your pedals? Thanks! |

Here is a link for bulk cable and plugs to make your own power cables: http://www.effectsconnection.com/osc...1a74a682555fae
I have made my own recently, thanks to the help of Andreas (A.K.A. Stinkfoot-TGP member) I have made straight/angled single power cables as well as daisy chains for my recent board that I just finished, and modified some cables for my big board as well. I prefer right angle to right angle cables but sometimes straight plugs make sense. The biggest concern for making your own power cables is having continuity in wiring tip and sleeve connections. Especially if you have center negative and positive tip requirements. Besides Effectsconnection.com, Mouser electronics is a wonderful site to look into for your DIY build. Good luck!
