He was also the 2nd guitarist for the final Faces tour. Rod hired him because he thought after Ronnie had toured with the Stones he wouldn't be able to play all the guitar parts without a 2nd guitarist.

I wish there was a decent collection of his work on CD; I got a twofer of his first two records and they're farily weak (although I bet the parties were epic).

Jesse Ed Davis is a super hero who was always under the radar and then left too soon.

I just know of him as the guy who played on all the George, John and Ringo projects.

George brought him in for Bangladesh because, right up until the last moment, EC's presence was anything but certain....

Grace & greatness on guitar. Well respected amongs his peers. Dies alone in an apartment building's basement laundry room of an overdose. Tragic.

I just made my first Wikipedia edit ever. Where Wkipedia said he had played on an album by Jackson Browne, I added that he played the solo on Doctor My Eyes. It's not blues like much of his music, but that's a killer solo.

Love his work on the early Taj Mahal records, brilliantly understated playing. Huge influence on Duane Allman too, you can hear how closely he copies JED's lead lines on Stateboro Blues....

Thanks for watching my video! I had to post it as JED is one of my favorite guitar players of all time.

He had a unique sense of time and his phrasing was off the charts. On top of that, he got those wonderful tones from a Tele (other than "Doctor My Eyes" and "1975").

I've owned about 10 Teles in my years of playing, none sounded like Jesse's. He played, mostly, on the front pickup and had that ultra clear and clean tone. No muddiness and not Strat-like either. Really unique. I've heard he used a Tweed Bassman with JBL's, which maybe provides the answer. Truly, have you ever heard anyone else's Tele neck pickup sound like that? I haven't.

I could have put up more on that vid (I have a tone of JED stuff).
