Someone dumped a bunch of dirt/turf next to our garage

Yep, some asswipe decided to leave about 4 wheelbarrows worth of dirt and torn sod in the 3 foot space between our garage and the alley. The sod is torn up in a way that makes me think bobcat or loader. The pile actually had spilled into the alley about 6 inches.
Looks like the city garbage/waste people won't do anything with it. It's way too much to fill our lawn divots (though I may use a buckets worth for that) and there's no neighbors doing yard work. Nobody to pin my cold blooded rage on. What the hell am I supposed to do with all this crap?

Anyone in the cities want some topsoil? The sod is a thank you gift for taking the dirt.

Hey, bring it down here- we can use that to fill in where the kids' sandbox and swingset were. Also can use it to even out the ground from the previous owner's pool was.

I spent the past 2 days digging fence post holes- I'm planning on using the dirt for that, but I'm still going to need more!

Atleast it wasn't trash. Dirt and sod is somewhat usable.

There was some trash (2 plastic bags, 3 cloth rags) amongst the dirt. You can have that too.

(edited my OP to reflect that there's NO yard work going on)

If you have a shovel and a yard, pick out the turf and just throw the dirt across your lawn. Once you spread it out, you won't even know it's there. If it really is topsoil, your grass will thank you for it.

That's what I"m thinking we're going to have to do Big Daddy, though it's a lot of dirt and I"ll have to do some follow up work to seed some more grass (gotta do some patches anyway) into the newly created patches of dirt.

Yup, we gots a little yard.

I'd do a bit more detective work before concluding that there is no yard work going on in the 'hood. Walk around and peek into people's back yards, look for any signs of dirt (like a trail of breadcrumbs) and follow it back to it's source. It had to come from somewhere. Check with rental yards to see if they rented a Bobcat to anyone in your' neighborhood recently.

I'd also consider buying a security camera and install it on your' house. They make them now with night-vsion and motion detectors for very little money.

I'd also knock on doors and ask my neighbors if anyone has noticed a truck in the neighborhood lately or if someone saw the illegal dumping being perpetrated.

Talked to 4 of my neighbors. I also walked my alley as well as 2 to the west and 2 blocks north in a grid. No south or east neighbors.
No other signs to follow. Security cam pointed down the alley seems a bit much.

I'll just spread as much as our yard will take (and then some) this weekend and see where that leaves us.

If they dumped once, they will dump again. Your' property is a nice target due to it's location next to an alley. Dumping is a growing problem as cities/towns make it difficult to dispose of these materials easily/without cost.

Call public works. They will probably come pick it up. People often use my alley as a place to dump trash items too big for the trash. I have the public works phone number stored in my phone. Whenever I call they are quick to come pick up.
