Need help from hd500 users!!

hi

I've been playing alround with the amps and noticed that there's a HUGE difference in levels between the amps and pre's!! for example the jcm800 pre is MUCH louder than the jcm800 amp with the exact same settings!! could someone please verify that this is the way it's supposed to be? create a new patch with just an amp, turn everything up to max, then change to the same amp but use the pre-version. seems odd to me that the preamp should me louder??

/Thomas

This has always been the case on all the PODs I've used. You have to spend some time setting up your patches and equalizing the volume between them.

yes I'm aware of that but should the preamp alone be som much louder than the amp with poweramp included? could you please try this on your hd500: new patch, select jcm800, turn everything to max, then change to jcm800 pre and do the same (watch your speakers/phones and ears) I need to know if it's only my unit that does this, haven't payed for it yet but I will tomorrow unless there's something very wrong with it

The pre models are designed to drive the tube power section of the dt50. You have to be able to drive the power tubes into distortion, so the levels will be somewhat louder, depending on the model

ok that makes sense, but with the jcm800 we're not talking "somewhat louder", the difference is HUGE, and the funny thing is it sounds really good. if you compare the two, it's almost as if they mixed them up, i.e put the wrong nametags on them.
I compared all the amps and their pre's and the J45, Uber, Treadplate, and AC15 seem to "suffer" from this odd behaviour, but the jcm800 is by far the worst.

What are you using to hear the POD (apart from your ears of course)?
Headphones, amp, PA or what?

I play through my monitors (connecting via my pc). I just tried the hd400 and it the same "problem", so I guess it's the way it's supposed to be?

this happens with every modeler i have use or own. different model also assign to specific cab. cab can create difference in volume level you hear.

download this meter to set preset levels. plus can use to test rms levels for mastering of daw.
