Replace my Visual Sound J&H with...

Ok, here's the situation:

As far as distorted tones I use a Distortron which is almost all the time boosted with the overdrive side of the Jeckyl & Hyde; once in a while I use the overdrive section by itself or boosted by the distortion section of the J&H

I'm trying to find a replacement that can do nice overdriven tones and be effective when boosting the Distortron as well; I don't mind losing the distortion side of the J&H since I will boost the overdrive with a compressor.

And here's the catch: I'm not going for any "boutique" ods, I'm trying to find a common, easy to find, no frills, TS-like overdrive;

what would you suggest!?¡

PS: for those who wonder why I'm going for this change: I just can't deal with how big and heavy the J&H is it sounds good, but I REALLY need some pedalboard spare space

mmm lemme see

Visual Sound Route 808 - I might as well try something different..
Sparkledrive - like it, but not that much
Fulldrive - don't like it; it also has a big footprint
MXR GT-OD / Classic Overdrive - don't like it
Barber LTD - this one here is really appealing; does it do the mid bump ts-kinda thing?
Boss SD-1 - always an option; might get it and do some mods
Cmatmods Signa Drive - interesting as well

Thanks for all the suggestions!

You should check out the jhs sweet tea. Ts-808 on one side and their angry Charlie distortion on the other. I like their tubescreamer better than the original....it has a more usable tone control. Not really a large footprint in my opinion. And that angry Charlie is killer.

I would love to, but I live in Argentina
basically, the other side of the world

You might like the MJM Phantom OD because it's a TS with a switch that adds more gain and bass. Small footprint too.

I have an old silver J&H and I have the same issue as you do. I really like the tone of the OD and the fact that it can do a great TS sound as well as a thicker distorted tone, but it takes up too much real estate.

Two other options would be the new Maxon SD-9 Pro+ and the OD-9 Pro+. They both do TS tones but can also boost the gain and have additional EQ options.

I've just checked out the T-Rex Dr Swamp...NICE tone on that pedal, but:

1. it didn't work well when boosting the Distortron
2. it is way, way, WAY overpriced

the search still continues then...
