Its a fender blues delxe re-issue 40 watt , It normally takes 2x6l6, can they be substitted for jj 7027 and will this change the tone

A 7027 can be substituted with a bias change ..the 7027 require -60 to -65 v..
So your amp would need to be biased to -60 odd ish..I'm not sure if you can get to those values in the fender bias circuit. I would expect it to change the tone..not sure what to though..but I'd guess the same sort of characteristics as a 6550.. very clean then metallicy overdrive. Ampeg chose them for their tone and ability to stay clean when pushed. Rob

The JJ 7027 is exactly the same as their 6L6GC, except it has 2 more pins-1 and 6. If your amp does not use pins 1 and 6 for anything like a transfer point, you can use them and be happy-They're no different. Most Ampegs that featured 7027s didn't have pins one and 6 wired for anything anyway.
