When I first played the Tone King Metropolitan's lead channel, that is the tone I thought of... Perfect Jeff Beck lead tones.

Well, a Champ 600 really isn't like a classic tweed or BF Champ... Around TGP, if you say you want a big Champ sound people aren't likely going to be thinking about a Champ 600 but a tweed or BF champ

The 600 is a different circuit w/ a high gain preamp so I don't know that a tweed deluxe or a Deluxe Reverb will give you the sound you're looking for (I haven't heard the Champ 600 myself, if you were talking about a Tweed Champ I'd say a Tweed Deluxe, or a BF Champ I would say a Princeton...but I don't particularly think the DRRI is that great an amp--mighty bright compared to an original BF, and the DR was never a big OD machine. A great amp mine you, but not a cruncher).

If you want a ratty sounding, distorting 15-20 watt vintage Fender tube amp, try the Musicmaster Bass amp....2 EL84s and a transformer to split the phase--not the most accurate or cleanest circuit in the world and not, IMHO one of Fender's best amps. But definitely a ratty, crunchy, rock amp of the sort you seem to be describing and they can be had in the $300-500 range on ebay.

Make a 1 X 12 detuned speaker cabinet and load it wit a good speaker, that will make it sound huge, I guarantee it!!!

I've used a detuned cabinet with single ended amps for 5 years.

Get yourself a copy of Kevin O'Connors speaker cabinet book, it has a full description and plans on how to build one.

Search Auble Amps, I think they do an SE amp with a detuned cabinet.

I also recommend plugging into a larger speaker .... a 2 watt amp into a 4x12 can be interesting.
