I believe that's the "Bob Weir" model.

Well, I don't think it's a Bob Weir 'model' per say...rather they just build him a custom one-off. I don't know, maybe it's just not my cup of soup but that thing looks like a back breaker.

Sadly, Modulus are no longer building guitars - just basses.

Bob played a completely different solid body.

Bob used to play different solid body models w/ the Grateful Dead at the end, and Ratdog.

Last time I saw him playing with The Dead he was playing a guitar just like this one, though.

Check out the pictures from the Dead's family reunion:

More recently, I saw him with a tele

I think I saw that guitar in there somewhere just before being blinded by the short-shorts!

Yea thats definitely the one Weir has been playing. He used to play the blacknife model they used to make which was a real cool looking guitar. Bob was and possibly still is an investor for Modulus.

Bob has two Modulus like that. One is blue and one is black. They are not necessarily Bob Weir Signature models. His only Modulus signature was the Weir Signature Blackknife model, of which 12 were made. The subject guitar in this thread is a Modulus 3GFH. They have the "new" Modulus necks like the Genesis series which have a graphite sleeve with a tone wood fret board. The older Modulus' guitars (Custom Blackknife, Blackknife Model T Custom, 3H, Blackknife Classic, and the Blackknife New Vintage) had tonewood fretboards with composite mold graphite necks. The Weir Signatures had a phenolic fretboard on the composite mold graphite neck. The Genesis model guitars are from the latest group at Modulus Guitars. They are a product of Modulus' Rich Lasner (President) and others. The older (true graphite necked guitars) were a design of Geoff Gould who left the company in 1995 to start G. Gould Music

Both Modulus and G.Gould Music are primarily only building basses these days.

As far as the Tele goes...http://dozin.com/bobs/tele.htm

bilbal

BTW, good luck finding any of these guitars. It took me about 8 years to find my newest addition
That being said, you can find a Genesis series Modulus guitar every once in awhile. There is one on Ebay for a ridiculous amount of money. IMO, it's the older models that really kick ass. The Genesis series are good but they just aren't Blackknifes. Gould is the man!!!

Bob's much more than an "investor" in Modulus.

Yup - it's a Genesis G2 in blue. Pretty nice guitar. I'd buy it if I had the cash.
