KT66 suggestions for a JTM45 style amp

Hi there!
I own a fantastic Germino Classic 45 amp. It sounds amazing with the stock GT KT66, but I was curious to try a different flavour.
What are in your opinion the best KT66s for these JTM45-oriented kind of amps? Thanks in advance for your help.

Of the new tubes, the Shuguang KT66s usually get the best nod...

908SSP know what he's doing . He had to sell a kidney to get those tubes, but he knows what he's doing .

I had NOS KT-66's in my Rt. 66, and the only thing that came close at the time were the Valve Art brown bases...they had just a touch less harmonic magic...but it wasn't $300 less if you know what I mean.

In the studio, I'd want that extra nudge of the Genelex, but for any other application, the Valve Arts will get you 98% of what they do.

I have GT KT-66's in my Blitz. To GT's credit, they sound a lot better than they used to. I had an early pair of the GT KT-66's that to me sounded like a glorified 6L6...not so with the new GT's. Probably built a bit better than the Valve Arts too...so if you want a combination of good tone and great durability, go GT's. If you want great tone and good durability, go Valve Art, and if you want THE tone and "who knows how long" durability, NOS Genelex. Even if they only last as long as the Valve Arts, or aren't exactly NOS, you won't regret a minute of what they have left in 'em

Hey 908SSP, your amp is wonderful!

Thank you very much rwe333 and enharmonic for the input.
I'm doing a quick search on the web...
it seems that the GEC are very expensive and very good!
I'm a bit confused about the Shuguang and the Valve Art KT66s...are they the same thing?

Didn't know about the Genelex. Thanks enharmonic for the very useful comparisons...
talking about durability, how long should I expect from a pair of Valve Arts or Genelex (I usually play with the volume set at 7..)?

In all that I've tried, I preferred the Marconi brown base ones (made in the genelex factory).

I had Valve Art KT66's in my Marshall JTM45 RI and just switched to NOS Sylvania 6L6's and like them a lot better.

Which GT-KT66's are you using, the GT-KT66HP's or the GT-KT66C's? Personally, I like the GT-KT66C's more than the HP's.

That's nice amp you have there! I'm running the same tubes in my Germino C45.

My Classic 45 came with GT-KT66HP's...
what difference have you noticed between the HP's and the C's?

I have a homebrew single 6L6GC amp that I'm running a Genelex KT66 in right now and that tube has something magical about it. I dread the day that it dies becuase I even think it's special within the Genelex ranks. The preamp tubes is a NIB vintage Tesla ECC803.

I don't know man, the last time I spoke with Dr.Z he said he could hardly tell any difference between the GT 66's and the NOS ones in his Route 66. From what I hear those GT's are very good, and the price is right.

Years back Z said the Valve Arts had a earlier break up and a bit smoother. I like em, I like there 6l6's also. If I were looking I'd call Lord Valve or KCA and get there input. Come to think of it I like JJ's 6l6's too.
