Soldano SLO low priced copy
Hey everybody, I'm new in this amp section. I'm planning to buy a tube amp of a mesa/soldano flavour. I am from india which has a very hot and moist weather. I hear tube amps do not like moist climate. Also, if a tube goes bad in an amp, then does the entire amp goes down or its still usable with the clean channel(tubes are not readily available here)? I'm illiterate on amps. Also is there a cheap tube/solid state copy of Soldano SLO or mesa boogie rectifier? Thanks.

Tube amps are not that sensitive - I've owned tube-amps for around 5 years now and have had no problems whatsoever with moisture and heat (I am in Mumbai so the humidity is always 70% or higher, and the temperature is between 20 and 35 C). Don't worry too much - just get yourself one - and play it often
![]() I have no idea of any SLO clones however - I'm more into the tweed/hiwatt sound - so I cant help you there. However - I've PM'd you names and numbers of a couple of local amp builders - they should be able to build you a clone if needed.

jet city amps is a low priced option as mike soldano is part owner, and Bugera makes what appears to be a mesa clone:

Yeah, I love the Jet city amps, but I've heard some horror stories of some jet city users, one user says the amp played fine for a few hours then it simply went dead. So, I'm not sure about the reliability factor.

I always thought the 5150-III had some SLO qualities to it. Not an SLO clone but you can hear the heritage.
It SLO is what you like and reliability is important, buy an SLO-There are very few amps that can match it's build quality. If you can find a local builder that can make a clone to the same specs (you can't get the transformers but there are good subs). You might want to check out sloclones.com or ceriatone amps. |

I thought the Recto was supposed to be somewhat based on the SLO.

It was weird reading this. I bought a JSX head because it reminded me of an SLO I played.
Obviously, it's not the same amp, but was in the ball park with some knob tweaking. |

The Peavey 6505 is widely cited as having a circuit topology lifted largely from the SLO and then tweaked, to the point where people have accused it of being a clone. Bugera also clones the 6505.
The 6505 is a fantastic amp for metal or heavy rock. |

I am entirely unaware of any quality problems with jet city amps. Their amps are ridiculously good and have an awesome rock tone. |

I could be wrong, but I believe one of the Weber kits is close to being an SLO clone.

![]() Actually, they are blowing out JSXs at the GC near me right now - $900 new, which is a friggin steal for this amp. Very solid, great OD tones, USA made, all tube, 3 channel, with a solo boost and loop. One of the best amps on the market for that money. About the only thing it won't do is a good modern high gain, which the SLO can do. |
