Carr Slant 6V vs. Mesa Boogie Mk V-kindly opine

The plan is one do it all amp. 1x12. Good for practice and gigging. Will not play metal. Prefer a good channel switcher.

Would love to hear from those who've played both or have strong views on one.

Thanks. Easy ones I make w/o the benefit of TGP input.

Slant 6 must be better than a Mark V - everone knows 6 is more than V.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Carr sounded a little better, but there's no way it's as versatile.

IMO there are very few amps capable of covering all of the ground the MkV covers. Jazz, blues, country, rock, metal, etc. - the MkV is a great fit for anything. It also sounds fantastic at any volume from whisper quiet to outdoor gig volume. People often associate Mesa amps with metal but that viewpoint sells the Mark series amps WAY short (and doesn't even apply to the Lonestar series). The MkV more so given the extremely versatile clean channel.

Try before you buy if at all possible.

more vintage flavors = Carr

more modern flavors = Mesa

FWIW, I don't think any amp can do it all, but I'm most happy with a great clean amp and some pedals. This, from a Carr (Rambler) owner and past owner of Mesa/Boogies.

best of luck on your quest

I love my slant 6. The clean channel can be so fender black face that it has my vibrolux reverb sitting unplugged. The dirt channel is just perfect with a boost that's better than any amp I've played. Check the Carr site and read the reviews by tone quest report.

I have never liked a boogie though.

Good luck!
