New Epi Nighthawk reissue.

I just ran across this yesterday. As f'd up Gibson seems to be with their recent moves (Firebird X), they seem to have their s#%t together over at Epiphone. If this guitar is as good as it looks in the pics, I'm going to grab one as a backup to my '93 Gibby Nighthawk ST-3 which has been my main axe for several years. If this does well, maybe Epi could release some other less originally successful (albeit now desirable) models as a follow up. Which discontinued Gibson models would you like to see re-released by Epi? Bear in mind that a big part of the allure of an Epi reissue to me is the price. I'd love Gibson to re-release the NH (not the CS version from a year or so ago but the real NH) but I probably couldn't afford one if they did. I could swing a few of these at $399 though.

Link doesn't work. I'd be interested in one of these too, the Nighthawk was a cool guitar.

Fun looking guitar! Hard to justify buying another, but that's awesome!

maybe in a year or so, but this has been a dream guitar of mine since i started playing... the 25.5" scale length makes me happy... its the main reason i won't get a LP type guitar

Nothing particularly wrong with this, but it doesn't grab me.

I get the idea--use Epiphone as a way for people to get cheaper versions of Gibson models. But this is a model that didn't sell that well in the first place.

The success of the Casino and the Wilshire show that there are plenty of people out there interested in guitars that are specifically Epiphones, not Gibson copies. I would love to see Epi start making the Del Rey or the Scroll again.

I don't think it's ugly at all but looks are subjective. I have no idea what you mean by "sound or play right".

I was on a Nighthawk kick a few years ago. At one point, I think I had about 10 of them (the Gibson, not Epi models), including the Standards, Customs, and Landmarks. They are nicely designed and were great guitars for the money - back then you could get them for around $700 used in nice condition with hardshell case. Now they are a lot more for the cool ones.

The main issues with players seem to be 1. They aren't a Les Paul and 2. The Fender scale is different for those used to a traditional Gibson.

I think reissuing an Epi version is a cool ideal. It keeps the model out there in circulation, and you never know when buyer tastes might move in this direction.

I never could figure out why this model failed. I love mine and usually gig with it even though I have other guitars that most people would find more "desirable". I know they have gone up in value of late so someone other than me must want them. In any case, the fact that you'll be able to pick one up for $399 should open the door for a lot of people who wouldn't or couldn't pay the price for the original Gibson model. Whatever one may think about the looks, this is one versatile guitar. There's pretty much nothing I can't cover with it short of stuff needing a whammy. Mine plays better than any Strat or Tele I own too. I think the black one looks killer. As for Casinos & Wilshires, they're great and I'm all for Epiphone reissuing defunct Epi models too.
