Thumbs up WGS Retro 30 is the bees knees!

just got the speaker this morning.. installed it in my Bogner Duende, and man do i dig it.. how much? enough that i took the day off from work just so i could play all day!

when i first got the amp last year.. it came with a Celestion Vintage 30. being an impatient kinda guy, i didn't let the V30 break in to get rid of the infamous mids spike.. so i replaced it with a WGS Reaper HP 55hz.. another great speaker, but the Bogner is already on the dark side (of the force). the cleans were beautiful, but when i kick into the dirt side, i don't have much of that mid range bite that i love (i'm all for that Marshall mid range vibe). also, when playing with a full band (we also just added a keyboard player), my amp got a bit lost in the mix..

so long story short.. Reinhold Bogner got it right with the speaker selection for the Duende.. it definitely needs a speaker that emphasizes the mids. the WGS Retro 30 has the characteristics of the V30, but also has it's own thing going on. out of the box, it doesn't have the harsh mid range spike a new V30 has, but it retains the V30's tight bass and highs, and most importantly for me.. kick it into overdrive, and i now have that Marshall-like growl and bite. another word i'd use when describing the speaker.. clear.. it just has a nice clarity to the notes (clean or dirty). with the V30, i used to sometimes hear this pinging sound when using the treble pickup. with the Reaper HP 55hz, my neck pickup was a bit boomy (not the speaker's fault really, since it's just doing it's job being a bass speaker).. the Retro 30 is the perfect match for my amp.. doesn't have either of those issues for me, so honeymoon phase is going quite well.

i'll try to update this post once i have broken in the speaker well, but out of the box.. i'm pretty impressed. nice job WGS! expect a third order from me very soon!
