NAD: Two Rock Studio Pro (just released)

New from Two Rock is the Studio Pro. I haven't had a lot of time with it yet but will report more in depth later. The amp is a powerful little bugger, like TRs most recent offerings. It's small like the jet, has one channel, pull switches on the eq, two 6L6s, reverb, and an active loop. It's a one channel clean amp but can gain up quite a bit. It is a LOUD 35 watts, seemingly as loud as the J-2, but with much more headroom. The cleans are beautiful and the reverb is superb. There's no footswitch. I tried my Ethos pedal with it with good results. VEry Dumble like. My first impression is that the Studio Pro is similar to the J-2 but with a lot more headroom and without as much gain. Haven't had a chance to try the active loop yet but it's a nice feature, especially at the price point the Studio Pro sells for. More later. Here's a pic:

That looks really nice. I've been wanting a one channel Dumble style for a while.

I'm curious what your relation with Two Rock is.

Are you advertising?

I didn't see anything on their site about the amp. Did you buy it. Is this a freebie for you in exchange for pumping it here? Why coy on the price point?

Full disclosure please.

No, I'm not advertising. The Studio Pro should be on the TR site today since it was just released yesterday. From what I know, the retailers have some in stock.

There's nothing to disclose unless being long time friends with Bill is some sort of conflict. I'm not a professional musician, I'm not endorsed by Two Rock, I'm not a distributor or retailer, and I've been a paying customer of Two Rock for years. I've purchased Fuchs, Bludotone, Carol Ann, and I've posted good things about many builders. In fact, I can think of only one time that I had anything negative to say about any builder and I apologized for that incident. I've owned Two Rocks that I didn't like (Kimock Sig) and posted my opinion about it on TGP. I have no relationship with Two Rock other than being long time friends with Bill.

For those who want to know the price: $2,700

I've also had more time with the amp and it is much more Fendery than the J-2 which I thought had a real Marshall flavor. When the mid knob is pulled it becomes very much like a beautiful blackface. The reverb is really good, not overbearing at all. I don't like a really heavy reverb so this one is perfect. This little thing can rock. It gets a really good grind going with the gain up to 12:00, much like how the Classic Reverb can get a good overdriven tones.

Yes, it's hand wired. Jack, I thought of you when I tried the reverb. I know that you're looking for an amp with built in reverb and this one is very nice.

Like the Zingaro, the intent of releasing the Studio Pro (IMO because I have no personal knowledge) is because of the lousy economy and the need to offer something nice without cutting too many corners. After all, this is a one channel, lower powered amp, and it doesn't have a footswitch. If it had two channels, was 50 - 100 watts the cost would go up considerably. I think it's TR's attempt to deal with reality: not many people have a lot of disposable income in this economy.

very, very sweet. The one channel wouldn't bother me a bit. I actually liked the zendrive and the clean channel of my emerald pro just as much as the dirty channel...

i only wish they had "dealt" with reality over these last ten years.
im very impressed this amp isn't $4000.
95% of players dont have the kind of disposable income that two-rocks cost........whether in this economy or a thriving one.
it's about time they price an amp thats more grounded in reality so more people can afford their amps............they make very nice stuff but sorry, they are way overpriced.
i think this is a great move on their part.
hope they do more amps in this price range or even less.
