Anyone play a Gibson RD Standard Reissue?

So after seeing Black Mountain the other night, I've been on the hunt for a Gibson RD. Cons include:
I'm not too interested in the Moog electronics (fwiw, the standard version is just passive), and I've read that the all maple construction gives it an overall bright sound.
They're also Fender scale (25.5), which I've veered away from over the years.
They're pricey.

So it looks like they reissued it as a GOTW (#48). I'm not crazy about silverburst finishes but in this case it looks pretty kickass.

They're few & far between, but they changed the wood to all mahogany, and shortened the scale down to 24.75. Sounds pretty interesting.
Then I saw these, also listed as a Gibson RD Standard Reissue, but not a limited run or anything. I can't find any mention of them on Gibson's site. Anyone know anything about these? I got my eye on that ebony one!

here's one for sale in Tucson ...

http://www.rainbowguitars.com/guitar...y/DSRDEBCH1/GB

I have an original from the 70s

Good guitars ... probably better for heavy metal stuff for my taste

but they can be versatile as well

I haven't tried any of the new ones.

Huh- that's interesting that the one in Tucson is listed as 25.5" and has Dirty Finger pups (covered) instead of Burstbucker Pros in the M&A link. I would still probably swap out some hardware for nickel...
In any case, I'm wondering how these sound being all hog rather than maple.

My guess would be that the "hog" would move into SG territory tonewise ...

Actually, I love the design, but I thing the guitar's proportions don't look right with the 24,75 scale. It has a big body, so it should also have a long neck to balance it (IMHO).

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing at first, but then I noticed it's a similar body (in size and shape) to the firebird (reverse), which is also 24.75"... I definitely like playing the LP scale length more, I'm currently playing a DGT which is 25", a pretty good compromise.

ALSO: That's a sweet custom above. Is that the one I've seen in that ridiculous Gibby harem shot in another thread here? That pic also contributed to my current gassy state.

That's why I hesitate to run down even the silliest of Gibson's or someone else's effort ..

You never know what's going to be in demand 10 or 20 years down the road.

RDs were the Firebird X of their day, especially the ones with all of the electronics on board.

I love 'em! A short scale one would be especially cool. Anyone who knows more, please post it!
