Auction Hunters - newer show
New show on one of the cable channels. Two dudes buying auctioned off storage units.
It's like a more chaotic version of Am Pickers. Even has the thin guy to fat guy thing going. I kind of like it. |

Idiotic morons !
Did you see the episode when the fat guy plasma(d) open the safe and crispified the contents along with the grip of the H & K revolver ? I do like the idea of finding cool shit locked away....but these guys are tools. |

Yeah. Saw that last night. Good job pitting the pistol's grip and reducing the value a lot. Good job indeed.

I wonder when they will find a body in one of those storage units

I actually wonder how much is real and if the whole thing is one big made for TV setup.

TV....an extension of "theatre".
Theater, by definition, requires "the willful suspension of disbelief" Translation: it's scripted. Fake. Phony. They all are.

To make matters worse I saw another channel is putting on their own version of rental unit auction treasure seekers.

1) They find too many "treasures". I've been around enough to know that 90% of the time, they are going to find nasty old clothes, crappy lamps, junk.. so I think this is a setup. and... 2) IF there really were folks that had their stuff in those units, and they knew they had an old coke machine, they MUST know it is worth a good deal (they even had vintage coke bottles) SO...why wouldn't they at LEAST have gotten the good stuff outta there before they stopped paying rent? I do not believe they all died suddenly. 3) WHAT in the world would stop a dishonest manager of the storage spaces from "stocking" a storage unit or three? I mean, if I get the rules, he's auctioning to a bunch of folks the right to go see what is in the units after they only get a glimpse. Why in the world wouldn't he take a unit that is empty, fill it with stuff (especially like boat propellers you could see from the outside, with no outboard motor attached...they buyers all think there is a boat back there, big high) and auction? Why the proliferation of these kinds of shows exactly now ? Could it be some kind of comfort for folk afraid from the current economy? As in, "maybe I will lose my job, but see here? I could go check out some pawn shops, or auctions, and buy stuff and make a fortune, see how easy it is?" I don't know....just something smells to high-heavens with these guys and their "luck" at getting treasures. I only saw two shows, but something doesn't add up here.

Of course it has to do with the economy. You got Pawn Stars, Ricks "restoration: guy that destroys the value of most anything he "restore's". Am Pickers, Storage Wars...all of these guys are showing you that there is hope out there in this new economy.
Better get out there and find that treasure... |
