Spalted Gadow Custom Hollow arrived!

Wow, this thing is incredible! I just picked it up from the music
store last night so I was only able to play it unplugged, but
it really is beautiful and even sounds nice and full without an
amp! Here is a pic for you to check out, and there are a bunch
more at: www.ece.cmu.edu/~tms/gadow if you're interested.
I didn't want to overload the thread for the dial-up folks.
Enjoy!

The longer I'm around, the more I like natural-finished instruments. It's just stunning what happens inside trees sometimes, and this one shows it off beautifully. Congratulations, and I can only hope (and certainly expect) that it's as pleasing to the ear and hand as the eye.

Best,

Michael

Great looking guitar. I actually like the way the inly dots look, with tharying upper and lower offsets, but wonder if that would be an issue for me when playing.

There are still dots along the top of the neck, I don't even
see the front of my fingerboard when playing. Besides, we're
not supposed to be looking at our neck hand while playing!

Same way I got this top... "I asked"! Got lucky with the Carvin
as well, I just asked if per chance they ever did a spalted top
and the salesman checked and they had three tops around
from some experiments they'd tried a few years earlier. They
don't "offer" them, and to my knowledge aren't doing them
now.

I have no idea if anyone else got the other two tops they had
or if employees got them. There was one made from this
batch of tops (so I think there were four originally) by the
head guitar tech there, Albert C. A C66 model. The picture is
on the Carvin Museum site (www.carvinmuseum.com).

I don't know whether Ryan (Gadow) is planning on making this
a regular offering on his guitars or not. He can pipe in and let
y'all know if he'd like! I know he's making a spruce top one
for someone. I'm really looking forward to seeing that one.
He does excellent work. Read the Guitar Player review on
the Custom Hollow from a couple months ago. Get your orders
in while the wait is still only 4-5 months... could get longer if
the demand picks up!

If anyone needs a dealer to order through, I'll be happy to
provide the name of the local music store I ordered mine
through. Great owner... mom and pop shop too. Just drop me
an email.

Looks great. How about a tone report once you get to play it in an amp more?
