Malekko Spring Chicken vs. Neunaber WET reverb

Looking for some help.

I have a Malekko Spring Chicken pink, single knob.

I am wanting to sell it and get the WET right now. Am I crazy?

I like the SC I just think I might like the WET better and if I got it, then it will be my buffer at the end of my chain. two in one!

Anyone have both? thoughts?

Not if you like the WET more. But I would be very sure you do, because it might not be so easy to get the Spring Chicken back since it isn't made anymore.

I have always had reverb on my old Fender amps, then I found a non-reverb Princeton that just killed everything so I had to start gigging with it. I missed the reverb, so I started doing research on reverb pedals, reverb pans, cheap, expensive, etc. I decided to go with a pedal, and two of the final contenders were the pink Spring Chicken and the Wet. I decided on the Wet based on experiences of working musicians, because I gig all year 'round and what I put in my chain will affect everything else. I bought it this summer and have never regretted it. I actually like it better than real spring reverb in some respects because I can crank it on some songs and it doesn't bury everything in washed out noise, yet it is very heavy.

Don't do it!
The SC is "the one"
I was in your very shoes a few months ago and sold the SC to get the WET. I personally prefer the SC to the WET.
PM me if you want details.

i just bought a WET and it really is amazing.

even still, the Spring Chicken just has something special and i actually prefer it.

here's why......

the WET is hi-fi, velvety. Sigur Ros, Slowdive friendly

the Spring Chicken is the exact opposite....trashy, grainy. more Clash than Coldplay. think "london calling"

the WET is GREAT for ambient stuff (even better than the BSR for ambient purposes in my opinion) but the Spring Chicken is great for just about anything else.

I had the Spring Chicken (original w/out dwell) and I much preferred the neutrality of the WET with my Tweed Deluxe. I also found the SC to have a little bit of a volume drop compared to the WET. I've had a bunch of reverb pedals and I just find the WET to give me what I wanted the most - a nice, subtle reverb with no tone suck, volume drop or coloration.

I sold a Spring Chicken to fund a Wet and am very happy I did. My SC had the above mentioned volume drop, it was a decent pedal but wasn't what I was looking for.

Man some of you guys are on one side, and some the other.

I have had no vol drop whatsoever. I was even shocked to hear about this. I wonder if it requires strong current 9v with high milliamps?? who knows. mine is fine and I am glad!

However, because you guys are so polar about which side of the fence you are on... I am more confused than ever!

Wait a bit more, save money and purchase the Wet, THEN compare. The only risk you're taking is to end up using both.

I am also on the side that the Wet sounds more like reverb but it's all a personal thing. Comparing both would be good also like mentioned.

edit for: comparing

i think the best thing to do in this situation is buy the Wet and see if it suits you better than the spring chicken. if money allows, of course.

Gearmanpig,

I agree with you about the confusion. I'm looking for the perfect pickup and I ask opinions on here, and I get them. Like 30 recommendations! And I think a lot of us gear heads are perfectionists, and always wonder if there's something better. But hey, I have found that there's a lot of good gear out there and one isn't necessarily better than the other, just different. What I have done a few times is decided that if I wanted to try something bad enough, I would e-mail the manufacturer or dealer and ask them if they had a return policy. If so, I would buy it, try it, and if it wasn't the one, return it. It will cost you shipping both ways, but on a pedal, that's cheaper than not liking it and selling at a loss. Just some things to think about.

Phil

This is sage advice. I had the SC then bought the Wet and gave myself some time to see which I preferred. I do think the "Spring" sound that I love was more natural or maybe just more exaggerated in the SC but I kept the Wet regardless.

I had issues with the volume drop that other's had complained about. It was more like a loss of low end, but that's probably because of the volume drop combined with the spring reverb accentuating the highs. In the end, I couldn't live with the loss of low end when I used my reverb and the Wet was just so smooth. Since then, I've also purchased the Strymon BSR and although it is pretty cool as well, but I'm glad I haven't sold my Wet.

Here's a nice comparison vid by fellow TGPer "Traviswalk" that might help you. To my ears, the SC is more on the traditional spring reverb camp and the WET more for ambient sounds.

thanks for the video. and the advice boys! I still think I want to hear the wet in person. I am hoping to be able to hear it live sometime somewhere. Maybe I will be able to afford it sometime soon, and try it and compare myself. I think I would need to sell something else first... ah tough decisions.
