how is the current ehx lpb1 pedal as a boost? transparent enough? does it react to your guitar volume well?

It fattens things up and adds alot of bass if you're not careful. I wouldn't say it's transparent. It does a decent job of boosting for the price, though.

I just picked one up earlier this week. It is quite a different animal depending on if you have it before or after a buffer. Apparently it had a pretty low input impedance. If I have it first in the chain it is really round and fat. After a buffer the bass behaves and there is more treble. I like it quite a bit and I think I like it best after the buffer. It adds some growl so it is great for goosing up an overdrive pedal. I found mine used for $20. Can't hardly go wrong.

I love my LPB1. As Mr. Chan has already said, it's not transparent. It does, however, boost frequencies I personally like quite a bit. I use it with a HRDeville and a Triple Rectifier. The Mesa already breathes fire, but the LPB1 makes it reeeeally heavy.
It has a little bit of grit at higher gain settings but if I'm cranking it up that high, I'm probably distorting something else with it on purpose so for me, the grit is a non-issue. If I had a Matchless or a Carrol Ann or something really high end and classy I'd probably go with something a little cleaner, but for the money, you really can't go wrong with the little EHX.

I thought it was pretty good at pushing a JCM 800.

+1 for the LPB. As mentioned it is great to fatten things up. I often run it with my tele as a leave on all the time pedal.
Lately, I have run it first in the dirt chain before my Dano CC Drive (read: OCD clone) and my Barber 1/2 Gainer. Search out my thread on the LPB-1 where I look for something like it with a volume knob. In short, I came to the conclusion, at least for my rig, that when set at unity against a Fulltone Fatboost v3 it held its own and then some. Yep, 20 bucks on craigslist. |

I agree. I run the LPB1 in my 2205's fx loop.
Not transparent and sometimes the bass can be a little too much. However, for the price, it can't be beat.

i like it. adds a little grit and a touch of bass. i use an LPB-1 as a solo boost and and a Way Huge Angry Troll as a gain boost.

My LPB-1 makes my OCD awesome-r. I like it alot. Thinking of modding it with a switchable low-cut, but it's very useful as is.
