HR Deville Thermistor

Anyone ever change a current inrush limiter, a/k/a thermistor on one of these? I've got one that went open after a strange excursion.

One of the power tubes shorted out and the two 100 ohm resistors on the filament string cooked themselves. After repairing the board and replacing the resistors I went to power it up and no joy. It did have a 20A fuse in the socket

So out that went and I put a fuse in the B+ string sort of as insurance.

The AC would disappear at the thermistor but bridging it everything's fine.

I did find the part number at Mouser, 527-CL60-5A. It is a 5 amp 10 ohm thermistor.

As long as the amp works by bridging it,then get the new part and put it in.It's cheap insurance instead of replacing the power transformer.

Hey, you might as well just use a nail instead of a 20A, they both offer minimal protection LOL

That CL60 should work fine, a lot of guys use those in McIntosh MC240 power amps and they hold up great.

Think a musician WOULDN'T use that nail to finish a set?
"Gee,my amp melted on stage and it was fine a minute ago"."right before I jammed that nail in the fuse holder"

Really. I guess the thermistor ended up being the fuse of last resort.

Seems like 20 amp fuses are everywhere.I just fixed a silverface super that had a 20 amp fuse. The rectifier tube shorted out and it blew the internal fuse thermo-fuse near the PT.Lucky it was there.

Gosh...I'm not sure I'm following this. Can I leave the nail in my amp, or do I have to get a 20A fuse? Your help appreciated...sort of.

I just fixed an amp with two blown 20A fuses, one on each side of the output stage. Believe it or not, they were the correct value. It was an old Mackie sub.
