http://donsigner.com/

I've been conversing with this former owner of a GM dealership for a couple of weeks now - his story is unbelievable. He his heartbroken after losing the dealership that he spent his whole life building. If you have some time, and have wondered what happened to all of those GM dealers, you may want to check this out...

That's a heartbreaker for sure... Big business making poor choices.

So, GM has been gunning for him for nearly 20 years though he claims to be above reproach.....
It sucks to lose a career, and there's been way to much of that in recent times for too many. But he comes across as a disgruntled employee, not that he doesn't have cause to feel that way, but, GM's dealership downsizing has been coming for 2 yrs for all the right reasons and with whom, is, and has been in charge there and making the hard decisions to make a huge company profitable again, I can't swing on the scheme of them poking him in the ass just out of spite....

It's not too much of a secret among franchised auto dealers how manufacturers attempt to bully THEIR customers into submission to get them to purchase inventory they didn't want or need, and with GM there was plenty of dead wood.........all you needed were big brass balls and enough money to stand up to them. Our mentor and dealer principal Thomas Nemet(god rest his soul RIP 07/04/10) had no problems taking manufacturers to task for their transgressions or stupidity and successfully prevailed in huge drawn out mammoth lawsuits with Hyundai, Volvo, and GM would have been next hadn't they messed up and gone belly up because of consistent BAD decisions. He basically told them to go f**k themselves and relinquished his GM franchise in January 2009 before GM went bankrupt.

Just wrote a long post that got too close to the political ban. I'd just say that we may likely never know the whole back-room skullduggery that causes a corporation to throw it's weight around like this.

You would not believe what the revised dealer agreement was between franchised dealers and 'bankrupt GM', we of course never had the pleasure since we told them where to stick it(that's the leverege you have when you're a successful multi-franchise dealer), but I understand they basically told dealers what to purchase and when, and how much.......good riddance.

I have no intentions of ever purchasing a GM again anyway (GM screwed me in 1983 - now they can watch me buy Hondas and the like for the rest of my life) but will say that I've learned in life that there are two sides to every story.

A good friend of mine owns a mold injection company. He had been making some parts for GM. They recently stopped giving him business because they decided to make these particular parts in China.

Yes, GM should have stuck to that same business plan that has been so successful all these years....way too many brands, way too many dealerships, huge losses, etc. Then they could have shut the plants, closed all the dealerships, let go of all employees, watched their parts suppliers and sub-contractors close as well.

And this guy would be doing fine, right? Oh wait, you can't have a dealership with no cars to sell. Nevermind.

GM went bankrupt - i.e., some folks were gonna take it in the shorts...
That's just what happens when a huge company sinks and then "reorganizes" under U.S. bankruptcy laws...
Best to move on - there's no point in wasting any time thinking about how things should/might have been; particularly when it's a done deal...

Well, GM's bankruptcy didn't exactly follow bankruptcy laws; some parties did better than others...
