BJFE Honey Bee, let's talk,...

I have had the Honey Bee for a while, I have not used it a lot. But I have started playing around with it and WOW!!! This thing is fantastic! I used it tonight along with my Klon. I took the Marshall Blues Breaker out of line to play with the Honey Bee. The thing was so amazing I never turned on the Klon. Very transparent with a wide open door for articulation. Amazing little box, I wish I had of pulled this thing out earlier.

yea. the worst thing you did was put it in the closet and the best thing you did was pull it out.

I found I really loved it into a clean amp. Really sweet EQ (thanks to Bjorns fantastic ears) and has the right amount of gain I prefer (low...)

I don't think it's transparent at all (that's probably why I like it though)

Yeah - definitely not what I would call transparent in terms of EQ, but it is very clean and warm sounding.

I've never thought it to be particularly tweed or Supro sounding - it sounds to me more like the older Gibson and Ampeg amps to my ears.

I've owned the model of Supro amp it's supposedly inspired by (S6416T), and play tweeds/Gibsons/Ampegs daily. I know what I hear.

I contemplated mine for a while but it still remains in the lineup after all dirt pedals.

The thing is for me playing live - there is nothing that compares to the HBOD for stacking after something for the purpose of boosting to cut thru the mix. I've tried nearly all of the popular stackers and combinations and this thing is in a league of its own. I wish I had total control of the eq and a little more transparency - but it is good enough as is and serves its purpose well. I don't know if it's mids or what but it does add its own color - hard to describe.

I've bought other pedals to try to replace it, but none can from my experience. Others seem to add noise, etc when stacking after - but the HBOD stays clear and really amplifies things. It's a stronger pedal than I anticipated and has more gain when digging in that I thought it would.

Funny - I had it for sale but couldn't do it - rejected all the people trying to buy it - apologies for that....

It's the dynamic-nature of the pedal that is very useful to me. I like the accent of the mids bjorn chose to accentuate too.

Interesting thread.

I owned both this year - still own the HBOD - wish I still owned the Klon.

These pedals are very different from one another and sound very different from my experience.

I'd like to stack them...

HBOD after: KOT, KR Boost, Sweet Sound Booster or anything else is FANTASTIC

This is SO true. Every other OD I've ever put in front of a HBOD in my chain has sounded fabulous. The HBOD is incredibly unique. I've heard quite a few other pedals compared to them here & elsewhere, but nothing I've ever tried (SHOD, Ghetto Stomp, Timmy, etc.) is even close. Great gritty rhythms on it's own, and just full of life when stacking.
