American-voiced speaker that can handle distortion pedals?
Hi all,
I've got a Princeton Reverb RI. Its stock 10" speaker didn't take too kindly to any distortion pedals, so I installed an Eminence Lil Texas 12" and a new baffle, hoping that would remedy the problem... it didn't. Great when clean, but with anything heavier than a TS, "farty" bass, indistinct mids, and hugely directional high end ensued. I'm not entirely certain if it's the speaker that's the problem here, but it's going to be my first angle of attack on the problem. So I'm wondering, are there any speakers that can deliver both good Fender cleans, and handle higher-gain distortion pedals in front? I'm talking the Rat and Plexi-in-a-box sorta thing here, not the modern 'chugga-chugga' distortion. I'm concerned that what I'm asking for is a bit of paradox - good cleans and good dirt - but I'm hoping it's not. Any help would be much appreciated! |

I put a Scumback SA10H75 30watt. in my PRRI, and it retained the nice Fender chime, and holds up real well with OD's. I can now use my bass control, as there is absolutely no more flub in the low end with this spkr.

An EVM10M will fix you right up.
If you want an AlNiCo, try the FANE AXA10 In Weber speakers, the 10F150 or their CTS clone
