Much truth, me thinks.
Are the Studio's like folks in the welfare line and the Epiphone owners the untouchables like in India?

I'm a fan of Gibson historics, but not these overpriced signature monstrosities. The only signature that counts is the original...Les Paul
I can understand why someone would say that....you buy a new guitar only to face 30 pages of people saying that the guitar, Gibson and you are all retarded. If you got nothing nice to say, right?

And he was planning on making small mods to make it more correct such as removing the pickup covers and getting cream bobbins.

I am a big EC fan, he's the reason I started playing. But the Beano LP sig leaves me scratching my head. I mean, what is it, really? Tuners aside, how is if different? People are paying for the EC signature and bragging rights, but I'm not exactly sure what they're bragging about.

And I ahree with what was said by someone else earlier, it's a shame EC didn't play a 335 for Crossroads on the Cream reunion, I'd have loved to hear that. (Although the Strat version was quite superb).

In the FWIW dept, a guy on the LPF bought one and posted a bunch of pics. The guitar looks fantastic with all the case candy that you would normally expect. After several pages of comments another guy posts the question, 'well, was it worth it? The OP posts back and says, 'no, not really, it just a glorified RO with a bunch of Clapton case candy'. This is what I was thinking lookin' at all his pics but I wouldn't post that, not my place to rain on someone else's parade. This is just marketing for Gibson, all in all probably a good business deal. They are in business to make money after all. Those that want it will buy it and those that can't afford it will make fun of it, it's this way with a lot of things. If you can afford it but think it's not worth it, don't buy it. Of all the signature models they've come out with I really did want a Duane back in the day. Stupid expensive then, much moreso now on EBAY. Most of the ones I saw looked nothing like Duane's, ie no reverse chevron/gull wing flame. I know guys that preordered these and waited forever and got one that looked nothing at all like a Duane, just an R9 with a really nice top. The best ones, IMO, have been the Bloomfields. The NOS ones look great and the aged ones look even better. However you could really do the same thing with an nicely topped R9 and some mismatched knobs. Same thing with the Peter Green ones. If I had a Bloomfield, 1st thing I would do is change the knobs, keeping the orig. mismatched ones for resale at some future date. As for the Beano Burst, it makes sense for Gibson to have one. For most people he's the reason they play a Les Paul. Also, it might serve to get EC playin' a Lester more often and to me that would be a good thing!

I just read an article where they talk about how ec got his tone from from a les Paul, specifically on sunshine of your love. Basically he puts the selector switch in the middle, rolls the tone knob off on both pickups, volume on bridge to 6, volume on neck to 10, and then plugs straight into a 50 watt plexi style bead with everything dimed. I tried it and it's pretty damn close. I never would have tried settings like that otherwise with tone knobs down to zero. Sorry for the hijack.

Damn, I need to get that DVD! And yeah, if I can afford that guitar I would buy it in a heartbeat too! Who care if it's not accurate. Atleast Clapton "approved" it.

I agree with all this and would add that its the only Les Paul EC has had any input on so that adds to its value for some people. Also its a collectable so there is value for those folks. You can certaintly get your own version of the "Beano" tones with any number of less expensive genuine Gibson Les Pauls. I think used G0's, 58's, '57's, standards and Classics with or without pickup changes are awsome values. Studio's too.. I couldn't be happier with the '06 G0 I picked up in right here a few months ago.. No one is forcing anyone to buy these things but if you want it, and it gets you going then spend the dough, don't think twice, and enjoy yourself. If you end up selling down the road you could be really happy or lose some dough but rationalize the experience like a trip to Vegas. Its how you look at it...All the condemnation is really not really warrated in my view. Its not like the company is forcing this on anyone.

Did the article also say that it was his Les Paul Custom that was used on Sunshine Of Your Love and not his Burst, which was stolen a couple of yrs prior?

You gotta love Mr. May nodding his head in approval at the 2:57 mark!

Dude... do you really think EC needs money nowadays? Geez

AND... anyone that knows anything about Mr. Clapton knows that it's pretty clear he kept the first 5 for the Crossroads guitar auction he does regularly.
