How much do you tip and for what?

I know some 10% and below tippers and wonder if they know that 15% or 20% is the new 10% ?

I'll poll this, but curious to see what the norm is tipping wise these days.

You're expected to tip your HVAC consultant/buyer about 80% of what you spend on equipment. That's just a rough guidline and you can tip as your conscience leads you...

I put a tip jar on my bench at work. Management took a dim view, but I figure with all the great huzzahs our group received, people would be happy to indulge with more than just a "thank you" or "you are amazing" or "guru".

Ahh, the tip jar. To quote Dennis Miller, "what's 15% of 'blow me'? "

The last time there was a thread like this on here, people were trying to justify tipping 5-10% or not tipping at all... and I lost a little faith in humanity.

I'm a 20% guy. Ideally I limit giving those tips to people who earn less than minimum wage per hour.

I'm also a 20% guy... I also always tip cash even if I pay for the meal with a credit card. I always wondered if it was a pain in the butt for the waitstaff if you tip them with your cc? So I always tip in cash. Anyone know how the credit card tip process actually works for waitstaff?

Tips start at 20% and work their way down based on server not kitchen. If they do a bad job of keeping my glass full, food comes out cold, they annoy me too much, they don't stop by enough... all contribute to whether the tip goes down.

I think the worst tip I ever gave was 14% and the best was 23%. I average at about 18%

Never less than 20%. If there is a problem, I will let it be known verbally.
