Gibson still releases a Firebird this year...

Thankfully, not the one we feared...

I bought one of those about 3 weeks ago.

I absolutly love it. Some of my other guitars may be looking for new homes soon from lack of use.

What sets the 2010 apart from prior builds?

Same price, it's got the Steinberger gearless tuners. The neck also seems a little slimmer than older birds I've played. There is absolutly no neck dive with this guitar when I let go of it.

Nice. But if the Neck is slimer , I'd get an older one for around $1200 and get the gearless tuners seperate.

One of the coolest looking guitars ever.

I had a set of the Steinberger tuners put on my Firebird as those banjo tuners just wouldn't work on mine. The Steinbergers will stay in tune, but they are still a pretty funky piece of kit. Couldn't use 11s with them and tune down. You also have to catch the string just right when locking them up. It is fiddly guitar to string up. I kind of wish it just had stock grovers. Once you get it though, it sounds good and will keep good tune.

That said I know some people are not a fan of the stock pickups, but I like how they sound. They don't clean up well but they have a heck of an edge and the neck is nice and gooey sounding with some gain.

hey russiancrowe, how heavy is your Firebird?
my old bicentennial Firebird was a true boat anchor.

no matter how much it weights, though, one of these will be mine in March.
thinking white with Lollars...

"...a pair of ceramic-magnet mini-humbucking pickups that look identical to the originals."

Too bad they won't sound like the originals.

they've got a 65 Firebird V and a 65 Firebird VII as well... I must say that the 3 pickup VII with the Vibrola is pretty stunning. The Pelham Blue is pretty awesome on a reverse firebird, as well!

I picked up one from Sweetwater about a month ago. Mine is very light. I thought I would hate the pickups, but I like them very much. They are easily the most dynamic hum-bucking pickup I own. The Steinberger tuners are a huge improvement over the banjo tuners. I prefer fat necked guitars and this guitar has the thinnest neck of any guitar I own. In spite of the thin neck, I like this guitar very much.

What pickups were the previous Firebirds using? I played one once while testing out amps and I almost walked out with the guitar instead of the amp. It was fantastic.
